The files go in your deus ex/system folder, run the game (launcher window should pop up), go into configure and set your renderer to direct3d9.
Oh yes I remember in the original game how holding bodies reduced damage by 10% and how flare darts did the same damage as regular darts and mounted grenades didn't detonate if the player has radar transparency/thermoptic camo even though Alex explicitly says they're based on sonic transducers during the generator mission, not radio waves, infrared or visible light.
