Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Is there a best way to play?
I haven't played this game since 2001. Any mods, etc to make the experience better?

GMDX is what everyone recommends and what I've been using for what is the first play-through I intend to finish.

The definitive way to play, even comes with achievements

I prefer a vanilla experience, which you're not even going to come close to experiencing with GMDX or Revision. The only thing this game needs is some graphical assistance and stability on modern hardware. That requires only two things:

Enjoy!

Deus Ex Transcended mod is how I play
You don't need Revision or GMDX, Transcended is the most vanilla-friendly way to play while updating Deus Ex to modern standards

Just play the original and let it speak for itself

"best way" is subjective.. You said you played the vanilla game back in the day.. I can relate, so yea I'd probably recommend give gmdx a go.

If you want something less "intrusive" to the game but adds some quality of life features, try shifter or biomod.

If you want something completely different, I can't reccomend TNM, the nameless mod enough.. Easy way to install it is through the revision betas tab, right click revision in steam goto properties and the beta tab should be in there somewhere.

With a controller and flickstick mode. Way better to look around and move than a device made for a secretary.

We all like gmdx... It's revision that we're concerned about.. It gets pushed like it's the "definitive way", but the difference between the two are like night and day, where gmdx aims to improve on the classic game, but revision wants to just cram in everything, even if it destroys the flow of the game.

... which is what Revision does, when you keep the gameplay to "Vanilla" in the options.

I used to use the kentie patch as well, but, now I just use Revision, for comfort reasons.

another vote for gmdx here. It improves Deus Ex so much its incredible.
if your building for a specific challenge in mind like shotguns only or no augs/full melee, yeah you can definitely play that way in the game. but this game demands working brain cells if your doing those challenges!
DX Randomizer. You have the option to make it default to vanilla in the installer. But it'll automatically get kenties launcher for you and adds lots of great futures while staying true to the vanilla experience.

Then once you've beat the game, you can play with added enemies and changed camera/security locations.

I don't recommend Revision unless your ready to go change everything to "vanilla" in the settings. (And even then, it still assaults you with the immersion-breaking loading screens.)
And I don't recommend GMDX because it vastly changes the gameplay and feels like a completely different game. But some people like that.
