Having played the game many times in 'Realistic' difficulty I rarely get killed. How you decide to play (stealth, or my preference, sociopath) can affect your chances of survival. Play the game, understand it, and learn from your mistakes.

It really isn't that "hard", just so much better than virtually Beta-testing most modern games, and still finding yourself disappointed.

Along with Far Cry 2 and Outcast 1.1 it remains one of my favourite games. Having said that, I'd still tread very carefully when playing FC2 - on any level, especially Infamous.

Yes, like in all 90s and early 2000s games, no handholding. Want health regen? earn it! hiding behind a wall like in Human Devolution won't work.

Hmm. I'm sorry you're having trouble. Without knowing what is causing the trouble, however, I can only guess when it comes to suggestions or help.

How do you usually die? Are you attempting stealth or first person shooter style, or something else? What weapons are you using? What map are you on?

Meh, Deus Ex games are all about chosing one aspect of your playstile to focus in. In this game I played as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ unkillable ninja with the speed/jump and regeneration augments, plus that sweet chinese laser sword. I played it on the hardest difficulty but it was easy, except for the robots. You should always carry some kind of explosive.

I could hardly believe this game after playing the action games of the 90s where you can just shoot a rocket down everyone's throats. The crux of the game is that you are supposed to be stealthy though, and it gives you insane help in this area, unlike the run-and-gun strategy. The enemies are practically braindead if you try to be stealthy in the slightest, even compared to Thief.

You also should put a point into lockpicking, electronics, and computers, and max out at least one weapon skill. Besides that, just stay stealthy and the game becomes a breeze.

It's pretty hard at the beginning, but don't worry, it gets easier once you get more XP and augs. I'd suggest picking a few skills to focus on and only upgrading those. Once you have a couple of levels in a weapon skill, you can actually hit things and the combat gets a lot less frustrating.

Its not hard, once you get used to it when playing *easy* for first time, then hard for second and realistic for third. Make sure you have proper skills upgraded and augs.

It will take longer, but I recommend exploring the environments as much as possible to rack up the Skill points, and find augmentation upgrades/cannisters. The side quests are also important in this regard.

Bought this game on CD back at 2004. The cd worn out later years (countless matches on multiplayer)...but i was happy to buy it again on steam.
Currently in Area51 start on Realistic...(skills maxed, thanks to skill bug with Dr.Savage) :)

heres a tip, use the baton... no joke, hit the enemy in the middle lower back and it doesnt matter if they know your there or not, instant knockout! with practice, and some patience.. also, learn the enemys view distance, and keep that in mind, its not very far, so what you may think they will be able to see you, they probably cant until you get closer, this helped me get a better experience out of the game.

my skill preference is to take one off the pistol for the first mission, raise lockpicking, electronics and computers, then demolition (hidden lams and nades always catch me out) and heavy if you can... then raise pistol as soon as you get enough points for it... use the minicrossbow, i know alot of people think its useless, but it really isnt, those tranq's are deadly if used right(if your getting chased, just fire one of those babys at him and run like hell, also good for other strategic situations)

But more so.. patience... lots of patience.. plan your approach, this game is full of places to sit and watch the npc's patrol route, it was developed with that in mind.

I'm going through my 1st time too. I'm just getting out of the Liberty Statue area i think (i don't want to give anything away). I certainly spent a lot of idle time not understanding what was expected of me in the beginning. And i still do die a bit. One thing I recommend with the shooting is getitng a gun with a scope. Then you can do what in Halo we called quick scoping. Its just firing the gun and zooming in at the same time. Your crosshair will always start right on point. Its helped me through so much. Then i found a flamethrower and that thing is a monstrosidty too.

I didn't read all the thread cuz i don't want plot spoilers but I hope you keep it up. Its going to take me a while to finish but I'm really enjoying it the more I play it.

quick scoping! omg this is a stealth game not some fps call of duty, doom clone.. your dying because your either getting seen or going in guns blazing... if you take your time, hide in the shadows, stay out of their view cone, and watch what they do before acting, generally be more strategic, then you will have a better time NOT getting killed and playing the game the way they trained you in the training course, which is the how the dev's intended you to play this... but if you just go in guns blazing quick scoping everything... you may as well just play cod or cs, i mean seriously.. why did you even get this game?

play it how you like, but thats just not right man... quick scoping... you dont quick scope in deus ex you just dont..

I have not played often but If you have played old Thief games you can play this too. It´s a crouching game, stay unseen, learn to control some electronic equipment, throw some stuff to lead enemies in certain directions or throw a grenade, place some mines, wait, look around, learn movement patterns of potential enemies. All what Black Mojo wrote..

Don´t shoot at all and everything what you see. But If you kill make no noise.
