Indeed, I also thought I was playing Final Fantasy
It's got those lobster-fellas in the scuba gear, and there's 4 (5) different endings! It's a sequel to the original rather than a prequel, so if you enjoyed the first game (and if you didn't, GTF out of here) you'll like playing and seeing how the world carried on after JC finished the first game. The setting is actually as if you chose several of the original endings, there's stuff in there that implies bits of each of them happened. Nice skill system, world travel. What's not to like?
It got panned for being dumbed down and console-ish, but FFS that war's been fought and won. EVERY game is dumb and console-ish now. IW is no worse than plenty of modern games and has a lot going for it.
It also costs like 5p on Steam. Play it! It's just a meme to say IW was ♥♥♥♥, everybody does, but how many times have they played it?
No, it is incredibly boring. Terrible tiny maps. No places to go. Got bored out of my mind after first few hours, turned off, never again. just terrible.
graphics is far worse (world building) despite technically being more advanced. it's ♥♥♥♥
> EVERY game is dumb and console-ish now
yes, every game is less good than Deus Ex (1).
still, there happen to be games that are not too dumbed down. Very different genre, but for example: Dwarf Fortress. Noita. And somewhat similar genre (but totally different climate, and HARD game... "not fun" game... but still good in a way, certainly not too dumbed down) - Pathologic (HD) and Pathologic 2.
deus ex 1 can be off puting if you dont like old games, particularly early 3d shooters. it has a great story
human revolution I dont think it has as good of a story but is modern in terms of gameplay
so yes if you dont hate old shooters from the 90s
I played through it recently and i must say, yeah it's not a bad game but it's a bad Deus Ex game
It was somewhat buggy and maps are too small and claustrophobic (Even the big City hubs feel like tunnels rather than a city, unlike the much more open maps of original) and there's also a lot of loadings inbetween them, to get anywhere you always have to get through a loading screen or multiple
That's pretty cool, i liked his helicopter pilot too and the music that plays in that place (Unfortunately music is not as catchy as one in Deus Ex) gave that melancholic feel to the meeting
The Omar are pretty cool concept wish there was more to them other than few black market dealers and a couple quests with Leo Jankowski
Overall, not the game i would replay again but i didn't regret finally getting myself to play through it, so i could see for myself its bad and good parts
It had a lot to live up to and it kinda fell short there, especially with some controversial changes like universal ammo system, but game did left an impression on me

I agree
i think HR has better game play, maybe less exploration and ways to handle things
MD has the worst story and was sadly rushed super hard and would mostly say game play wise was as good as HR
I do agree that Invisible War, on its own merits, is not necessarily a bad game. However, considering how great the first game was, the bar was already set pretty high, and as a result, it just wasn't a very good Deus Ex game. It's definitely the worst of the first three games in the series (I never played The Fall or Mankind Divided, so I can't fairly compare them). Unlike the first game, it is NOT fair with the difficulty, regardless of your choices. The final sections of the game can be very brutal if you make too many bad decisions. It just feels more like a generic 1st person shooter with Deus Ex frills tacked on, rather than an actual Deus Ex game.
Human Revolution was definitely an improvement over IW, but the story focused too much on the augmentation topic (i.e. no realistically-varied local stories, like in the first game). Also, while this game is significantly better at letting players make their own choices, it still has a few head-scratching X-is-always-better-than-Y decisions (like hacking is always better than finding the code, etc.). The gameplay is at least more fitting with modern standards.
tl;dr Story-wise, the first game is by far the best, but gameplay-wise, you may prefer HR if you prefer the more modern gameplay.
At the time I loved this game, must have sunk hundreds if not over a 1000 hours into it over the years. However now going back and trying to replay it, it just feels a bit clunky and I just do not get the same vibe when playing it, even the revision mod, which while it does help a little, simply does not keep me wanting to play this anymore.
The issue with rpg games like this, at least for me, is you really need to sink a lot of time into it, to get the most out of it. If you are used to more modern gameplay, it can be hard for some older games to suck you in and hold your attention.
Where as with some older games like Doom, Quake, Duke 3d, you can just load up and have a quick blast, so for me these are easier to still play as I do not need to sink any kind of time into them.
It could also be I simply played it to death, where as a new player you have yet to experience the game you may get sucked straight in.
Its a bit like I have put thousands of hours in morrowind and oblivion, however after playing skyrim, I just cannot get away with putting any real time into the previous games anymore as while I am playing them, it really hits home how much more refined overall the gameplay in sKyrim is, even if they have really simplified some of Skyim's features. ( I want my Nerevarine Character in Skyrim :p).
for real +1
Yes!
