Button Mapping Suggestions
The keys this game expects me to use are silly. For one, I hate using F keys, since they all have primary fucntions like volume control that require holding another key to use what the game wants, and using brackets for zooming in...no thanks.

Any suggested key switches I should do? I dont want to override something that might be useful later like leaning (havent played beyond tutorial so far). I already switched crouch to Ctrl since it did not seemed to be assigned to anything already.

I always used the middle mouse button for zooming in with scopes.
Shouldn't common sense be enough?

F for flashlight and Middle Mouse for zooming is the only real keys that you'll need to do anything with for a better experience. The other F keys make it easy to determine the augmentations and most of them you may not use as you progress. Right click is fine as it is for item pick ups and activating things but certainly shifting F12 to F is a priority else you'll be taking a screenshot every single time you use the default aug.

I dont want to replace a key I might want later. Sometimes overhauling all the keys can lead to unexpected results, and this game is from my understanding, more complex than your standard FPS, considering it has inventory and skills.

Plus they arent all clear. I have to use F12 for my light, but I cant find the actual key in the controls list.

I guess the OP is using a laptop, where the Function Keys require that a special [fn] key be pressed to access them, otherwise the keys perform special operations, such as adjust brightness.

In the customize keyboard shortcut settings, what you're looking for are the F3-F12 on the left-hand side, which you can then map to something else.

Playing with a laptop, I also found it necessary to remap the Function Keys. I used the following:

F3 = P
F4 = O
F5 = Y
F6 = K
F7 = H
F8 = N
F9 = J
F10 = U
F11 = none
F12 = L

I can't recall from memory the logic why why I chose those, so you'll need to make adjustments that suit your sensibilities. However, I was progressively playing the game and making assignments, such as:

Light = L
Ballistic Protection = P
etc.

After taking a break from the game, I found it useful to load up the game, then take a minute to toggle those keys as a refresher.

You can change you action keys in the BIOS section of you computer (usually by pressing F10 or escape during startup) so that the F1 - F12 keys will act as the original functions (or in your case, augments).
A quick google search should tell you how to access the bios menu for your computer if you can't get it to launch, but when you do, change Action Keys from Enabled to Disabled.
Works a charm.

Good point. And if you're playing on a Mac, then just go System Preferences >> Keyboard, and tick "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" = ON. This will invert the [fn] key, so that you need to press [fn] to access the special purpose operations.
