Deus ex machina ( ‘god from the machine’) is a plot device whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem in a story is suddenly and abruptly resolved by an unexpected and unlikely occurrence. Its function can be to resolve an otherwise irresolvable plot situation, to surprise the audience, to bring the tale to a happy ending, or act as a comedic device.

It's taken from the latin phrase "Deus Ex Machina", which translates to "God from the machine"

So, translated, it's something like "From God"

Oh , now I get it . Thanks .
It's the Latin translation of the Greek frase "Apo mehanes theos" = god from machine . It was used for devine interventions which drastically changed a situation in a plot . The frase was formed due to the fact that the person who was portraying a god was raised upon the stage using a machine . (back at those ancient days these were the available special effects) .
The frase is continuously used up to this day with the exact words .
Thanks for helping me with this .

But what has this to do with the game ? Is it maybe that JC Denton is someone who drastically changes the plot of the game ?

The developers said JC was supposed to be a metaphor for Jesus Christ, since he ends up being a savior of humanity at the end of the game. And depending on what ending you choose he can merge with an AI to become almost omniscient and godlike.

Im probably wrong but what ever I looked it up from said its technology delivered from god, all ways thought the idea was technology makes you godly or like a deity or something like the technology is like a gift from the gods i.e. making life a utopia, being able to cure anything living longer/forever, just unimaginable technology

but idk

Have you completed the game? The final "bad guy" and one of the potential endings take the phrase quite literally.

The game has a lot of religion and mythology references. Page mentions "the city on the hill" during the opening cinematic. Aquinas protocol. Helios, Icarus, Daedalus, Morpheus, and so on

The reason why they chose the name is that at the time the story device of deus ex machina was used as they were still figuring out the medium of story telling in ancient greece, the devs thought that this was the same with video games at the time with lone spacemen fighting demons, so they chose the name as a sort of rebellion/attempt to change that by making the story actually fleshed out which at the time was uncommon

No matter , I think the phrase - therefore the game's name too - seems to me incomplete . What's the meaning of saying "God from" ?

It translates either to "God from" or "From God"

And probably because this game is not only a masterpiece, but a damn prophecy

I'm not even religious, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came from God /s

think the idea is its like a gift from the gods or on such another higher level its like the technology makes you gods, more like deities, id think when talking about gods its more like greek gods where they arnt omnipotent just powerful more like transended deities or lesser gods

Because sometimes names are chosen because they sound good, are unique or catchy, and not necessarily because they make sense grammatically when translated literally from another language

Fun fact. In the story of Pinnochio, his "conscience" or "guiding spirit" was a little cricket named Jiminy Cricket, which has the abbreviation "J.C."

From what I was able to research, the term apparently comes from ancient Greek theatrical convention wherein any time an actor was playing a god, their stage entrance was being hoisted onstage by an off-stage crane-like device.
