FAILED to find steam WHAT?

so i installed Deus Ex Goty edition and when i try to boat it up it says "failed to find steam" what in the actual hell can i do to fix this?

This is because Deus Ex assumes you are using the default steam library, in the steam folder. If you aren't, it will fail to find steam.dll. If you copy the dll file and place it in the directory next to the executable it will then be able to find it, or you could install the game to the default directory.

I have the same issue but installing deus ex in the default directory didn't fix it :(

Just use kenties launcher, much easier: kentie.net

better grab the direct3d10 renderer too from the same site, it'll allow the game to run in higher resolution as well as support modern hardware.

DONT use kenties, wish ppl would check before recommending it i see it all the time, its buggy.

The solution I found was to look in the actual Steam folder and copy the steam.dll file into Deus Ex's system folder. Apparently it allows games to check if you "have Steam" and because the steam version of Deus Ex doesn't have that file for some reason, it will refuse to start.

That's how I understand it anyway.

Call me dumb, but i'm having the same issue. Where do i find the Deus Ex system folder?...I found the steam.dill file, copied it but trying to find the other folder is killing me.

As you can tell, i suck at using PC's. Greatly

To find your deus ex system folder: right click the game in steam, goto properties, local files, browse local files and youll find it :)

I just started it via the shrotcut. Try that

For those as dumb as i am this should make it easier to fix deusex game of the year edition
right click on steam click open file location
copy file "steam.dll"
go into steam
right click deus ex
in manage select browse local files
open the "system" folder
past steam.dll
then it should run
