To scale the UI correctly, use kenties launcher, as mentioned in nearly all threads in this forum relating to problems with the game: http://kentie.net/article/dxguide/
Theres a scaling option in the configuration menu that allows you to adjust it.
You should also install either or all of these 3 modern renderers made for the game, and select one of them from the launchers configuration menu... this is to help with problems relating to hd and widescreen resolutions, fov, general gpu driver issues etc...
Directx10:

Updated Opengl and Directx9:

Both the launcher and the renderers should be extracted into your "Deus ex/System" folder
It is up to you as to what renderer works best on your computer.
The launcher and renderers are not mods, they are for making the game compatible with modern hardware so that the game doesn't crash or have graphical problems. It's just a simple copy and paste installation, literally takes under 2 minutes to download and setup.. I dont see a reason why you would avoid it, you'd be able to play in your native resolution as well as scale the hud, and set what renderer to use without having to manually modify the configuration files by hand.
