is this game worth playing vanilla? (solved)
i don't like mods and it seems from these discussions that you can't play this game well without modding it

is it possible to play and enjoy this game without mods? is it possible to force vsync in this game or would that mess it up? i liked the prequel and have always thought about getting this game but buying old games is always a gamble in terms of wether it will work or not and i'm not interested in buying duds

These mods don't affect gameplay, so really, it IS vanilla. Not many people play it with gameplay mods.

i dont mean it in that way, i mean it in the sense that if you dont get a certain mod then the game won't run, will this game run well out of the box? or will it have issues that require a patch mod?

Yeah, but what I'm saying is you will need a patch mod but it doesn't matter since it is still technically vanilla. Literally nothing's changing except it now works.

technically that's not vanilla since iirc vanilla means without any modifications and i count patch mods in that too.

what a shame. if that's the case then theres no point buying it'd be better to just watch a playthrough

What the ♥♥♥♥ why? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The gameplay is still exactly the same. Good luck playing any old game ever without community patches. I have no idea why you wouldn't play a game just because of a patch. That's just moronic.

eh i just dont like mods of any kind so if the game doesn't work well out of the box and needs a mod to work then it's just not worth it

old games are bad

It's not worth it to put a couple of files in a folder?

You're bad, and an idiot.

I never had to download a file of any kind because the game works perfectly well 100%.
Besides why don't you just buy the damn thing and get a refund if it doesn't work? God.

It works pretty much perfectly out of the box (Unless maybe you have Win 8 or something). Also, in fact you're more likely to encounter bugs with mods in this game. I tried HDTP once and it refused to load new level files after the first UNATCO level.

For single player, no mods are needed (Like I said, unless it's like Win 8 or the game runs too fast for you. Although I've never encountered the game running too fast, on any of my pcs). If you want to play multiplayer you just have to modify a single line in the game's .ini file.
