Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Leco Nov 10, 2017 @ 2:14pm
Any must-have mods for a first timer?
Gonna try DeusEx for the first time now and was wondering if I should install a compatibility mod or balance mod. I'm on Windows 10, btw. Thanks.

For first timers:

Recommended:
Kenties Launcher[kentie.net]
Directx10 renderer[kentie.net]
OR
Enhanced Opengl or Directx9 renderer[www.cwdohnal.com]

Optional:
New Vision (HD texture pack)
HDTP (HD model pack)

You can run the game without kenties launcher, I highly recommend it though, but youll probably want one of the above renderers for the game to actually run correctly.... unless your using an old win98 pc from back in the day ;)

For second timers:
heres a few mods to get you started

Should also use this bug fixing mod named ''Human Renovation'' but not with another mods. Fyi this mod makes the svimming skill more usefull and change it's name to athletic some more things you can read about, but mostly bug fixing. http://www.moddb.com/games/deus-ex/downloads/human-renovation-v13

Start with the GMDX mod and never look back:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/gmdx

It's a deep but faithful overhaul mod that brings the game to a whole new level. Everything that's great about the original game is still there -- open-ended level design, player freedom, atmosphere and story, etc. But everything about the experience has been tweaked in major and minor ways -- the AI is much more competent, new environmental details are added, skills and augs are rebalanced and refined, weapon recoil is totally rebuilt, difficulty modes are reworked, many bugs are fixed, and more. Because of these changes, GMDX offers even more viable playstyles and ways to build your character, without compromising any of the fundamental design. The game's never looked or played better.

I can second this. I'm a first timer with this mod and the game plays great with GMDX

Is there any OTHER way to get the GMDX mod, aside from downloading via mod-db; My interest was perked until I was having a 101kb/s download cap via mod-db. Not willing to wait 6 hours - I know, I'm impatient.

I think you can get a higher cap if you take another mirror. first you click ''Download now'' and then a popup will come op, instead of waiting, click on ''try a another mirror'' then take the one with the highest % cap.

If you just want the vanilla experience and don't want to change anything gameplay-wise, I made a mod on how to install what BadMojo listed:

Unless the mod has the privilege of Steam distribution (and AFAIK, only Revision currently has) - ModDB is THE way to go for mod downloading :cozyprodman:

Guys, I'm trying to install mods for the 1st time on Deus Ex, and I have many problems.
I have the Zodiac version that is the only one that I managed to install, but no exe appears, so it is impossible to launch...

I have downloaded The Nameless Mod and GMDX but both won't work.
GMDX and TNM seem to run but both crash just on the License agreement page, before any install is made possible.
Any clue what to do ? I tried to download something mentionned on the webpage : a vc_redist.x86 file, but nothing happens with it, it doesn't even start... I'm lost.

I made a guide on how to install GMDX several months back. Give it a whirl:

I hope this helps Zgt!

Well, unfortunately no... Thanks though.

My problem is not how to install it : I just cannot do any install.
When I launh these mods install (once downloaded), they just crash on the first screens, the one of the License Agreement.
There is not any install then, except with the Zodiac Mode, where after 50% of the install, the thing just runs crazy, and it seems it just skip installing the rest of it. As a result, I don't even have any launching icon (but I have the uninstall one, ironically).

You might want to look into Deus Ex: Transcended. It's a mod aimed at new players. It includes only bugfixes and minor changes.

I would recommend DX11 over DX10 renderer (especially if you are experiencing framerate/stutter problems), see here --> https://steamcommunity.com/app/6910/discussions/0/2994296376467218373/
