I can help with both.
Download this renderer, extract it in the same directory as your deusex.exe and set the renderer to direct3d 10 in the launcher settings: http://kentie.net/article/d3d10drv/
Run the game and let me know if it works... Then we will get new vision on, it's just a texture pack.. Fine for vanilla gaming imho
So GMDX changes skill system, AI, weapons, aug's, ect.? Is it recommended to use it for first run?
OK so if directx10 isn't working right try one of these and set your renderer to either opengl or direct3d9: http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/
Oh yea and try borderless widescreen, I think there's an option in the launcher for it.
Despite subs not showing on cutscenes, my game runs flawlessly. Just had to activate the vsync.
Could also try disabling that vsync and capping the framerate to something like 60 or 120 within the launcher. Or JizzTheWizz suggested in another thread to use "fast vsync" from within the nvidia control panel, if thats the brand of gpu your using, its not a bad option if you need vsync but hate the mouse lag, but use it wisely in other games... fallout 4 doesn't like it much at all, trust me :/
Theres also that SweetFX thing that people talk about too in one of those "modern system guides"... avoid that ♥♥♥♥ like the plague though, its nothing but post processing eye candy clutter.
I think we need a simple "Deus ex Vanilla for modern systems" guide for threads like these, those other guides just complicate things further.
And yeah, SweetFX is disgusting. DirectX10 by default has something similar but you can disable that pretty easily.
I think I might make a guide soon. The confusion is unreal and some people say things that aren't always true.
The option is ClassicLighting I believe, turn that to false and that'll disable most of the bloom and crap.
A new guide would be good, for just getting the game running without the other clutter.. If it got pinned to the top of the forum, that would be even better.
Oh and some small print at the bottom mentioning how laptops are a hit and miss with the game.. It's usually those people that have the most trouble getting it running.
GMDX isn't a total overhaul, it just fixes the shortcomings of the original. It makes the game more welcoming to the newcomers, gives a fair bit of challenge for experienced players and doesn't change the core gameplay.
Skill system has been made all around better (Swimming, called athletics there, has a certain niche for example).
The AI changes fit within the game limits. For example, the enemies won't "magically" know where you are after being spotted by a single person.
Gunplay feels more fun, due to improved sounds and recoil.
Naturally, vanilla is still a great game, but it's worth noting that GMDX fixes many bugs which plague the original.
I wouldnt say its more welcoming to new players, and as for it fixing bugs, well thats pretty debatable. As for what genre to put it in, the only thing missing for it to be a total overhaul is the fact that its still essentially deus ex, but its close enough imho.
Either way, people should experience vanilla at least twice before delving into mods and such :)
It does fix bugs, but DX's coding is a bit messy, some more problems may occur.
I agree, but each player is different, so twice isn't truly a rule.
