Unable to sync - steam cloud
My Steam is unable to sync the savegames to the cloud. Steam is doing something, cause my internet usage is high when Steam tries to sync. Manually letting Steam sync the savegames also gives an the same error.

Basically, when exiting the game, my internet connection gets completely taken over by Steam and after a few minutes I get a message stating that the cloud sync has failed. At which point my internet connection is free again for other applications.

As Foundation is the only game where this error occurs, I do think it is game-related and not account or internet connection related.

Sounds like you might be syncing too many and too big save files. Foundation save files can get really large depending on mods and size of the village.

Try disabling cloud saving for autosaves/quicksaves for one and only keep one normal cloud save file for your game.

Note that if you exceed 100 MB for your save file it can no longer be saved to the cloud as Steam rejects any files larger than that limit.

I deleted all the cloud saves. Steam confirmed by stating that 0 MB was used.
I then allowed only 1 savegame in the cloud. The cloud sync issue came back.
Strangly, Steam does say that now 53 MB is used (which is consistent with the size of the savegame).

hmm then it might be the Steam client wrongly reporting an error, try to verify the installation of he client or reinstall it as a whole :/

What do you mean by verify installation of the client // reinstall the client?
I know how to verify a game or reinstall a game, but I think you are talking about something else.

I believe you can verify and repair the installation of the client if you run the installer while it is already installed on the system, though it is by far simpler to just uninstall and reinstall the client

Sorry, but what do you mean with client? What is 'client'?
Reinstalling Steam itself?

oh yes sorry I meant Steam itself, it is also called the Steam client

Thanks. When I have time I will reinstall Steam.
Thanks for the advice and quick feedback.

The help from Minotorious is spot on. A couple of other things to compliment this.

1) go to the downloads tab of the Steam client settings: Steam -> settings -> Downloads
Here find Clear Download Cache -> click Clear Cache
2) in the same menu near the top you can see your Download Region: Change this then restart Steam

See if that helps before reinstalling the client.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I tried the cache clear and change of download location. Both did not solve the problem.

Reinstalling Steam will have to wait as that does require some preparations :)

Turns out it has to do with the internet connection. For some reason this game requires a faster internet connection for syncing than my other games. When I played with a faster connection, the syncing went without a hitch.

(Note: my connection is good enough to have live meetings with good quality, so it is not a 'poor' connection.)
