Distance Travel Limit for Workplaces
This has been posted before, but seeing as it hasn't been fixed yet and is a pretty big flaw in the game, I figured I'd post a fresh thread.

Example 1: I've placed groups of fishing huts at two different locations far across the map from each other and placed a granary right next to each group. The transporters from the granaries travel all the way across the map to retrieve fish, then travel all the way back rather than just staying close to their own granary and getting fish from the closer huts.

Example 2: I've zoned two separate berry bushes with extraction zones (again, far across the map from each other), then placed gathering huts next to each berry bush. I watched as my foragers traveled all the way across the map to gather berries from the furthest bush then travel back.

In a game where resource management is a major part of creating a successful, thriving village, I hope the devs will look into improving the villager AI when it comes to workplace efficiency.

I think one possible improvement could be to add a slider on a workplace's menu that controls a visual circle on the map that shrinks or expands as the slider is moved. Players could directly control how large an area around a granary or warehouse transporters would work to retrieve resources from producers in just that circle.

I absolutely love this game and hope flaws like this get ironed out.

For Example 1: transporters take from the place with the most resources available regardless of distance atm which can be a problem as you describe but if you have 4 transporters assigned to the granary they should still be fast enough to not leave your markets completely empty and your people starving. If that is the problem then you should look into improving your market setup and other food production chains.

As for Example 2: you have most likely placed too many gathering huts around your bush and thus it depletes too fast and they need to go search for other berry bushes, if you keep your gatherers as Serfs (for maximum efficiency) a maximum of 2 gathering huts per berry bush node will deplete it just in time for it to respawn and almost never have that issue.

I've noticed the things you've mentioned in your replies for both examples. For example 1 it's not really causing starving issues or market supplies running out as I tend to over do resource production. Same for example two: I've set up the two gathering huts like you suggest, zoomed in and watched as the berries disappear off the bushes, and just in the tick over before they replenish is when a couple of villagers want to beeline for the further bush lol.

For me, I guess it just boils down to control and OCD. When I have everything planned out "just so" and in a certain way, seeing the villagers travel across the map when they don't need to is frustrating. As you say, it's a problem atm but not game-breaking. Hopefully future patches will bring QoL improvements for things like this.

Thanks for your reply :)
