Ultrawide Monitor support, by redesigning the UI
The game is great but it is really uncomfortable to play on ultrawide monitors, because all the important interactions are in the corners, very far away from each other. It would be much more comfortable and user friendly if the buttons were aligned around the bottom middle of the screen (Example: Dawn of man, though their UI has its own problems).

Is there a UI rework in plans?

Yes a UI rework is planned but I can't say with certainty that ultrawide monitors will be fully considered. They are a special case and not really meant for this sort of gaming.

Well, if you position your important interaction buttons around the middle of the screen, it would work for ALL monitors. Also, this problem stands for almost every monitor larger than FullHD-24"... According to steam hardware data 1080p is 64.41% of all the primary display resolutions and there is like 10% above it (and the number is growing).
If all is in one corner, that's also fine but pls pls pls I beg you, not the opposite corners (bottom left -top right) for the main, most used interactions.

How can you say that "ultrawide monitors are not really meant for this sort of gaming"?

They are "meant" for all games! They are not specialist monitors but general purpose monitors, like every other.

I remember hearing exactly the same kinds of comments when 16:9 and 16:10 monitors first started appearing.

Designing a game only for "standard" resolutions is as bad practice today as it has always been. A good design works on any monitor.
