If all is in one corner, that's also fine but pls pls pls I beg you, not the opposite corners (bottom left -top right) for the main, most used interactions.
They are "meant" for all games! They are not specialist monitors but general purpose monitors, like every other.
I remember hearing exactly the same kinds of comments when 16:9 and 16:10 monitors first started appearing.
Designing a game only for "standard" resolutions is as bad practice today as it has always been. A good design works on any monitor.
