DEMO - Boars don't respawn after loading saved game.
I'm loving the new demo. I was playing all day yesterday and had established a little hunting area. I noted that boars would not re spawn in reforested areas, so I established a hunting area of completely untouched forest. I had 3 hunters which was enough to hold down the area. Today I loaded my game and the boars are not re spawning in my hunting ground. Since hunters will not venture beyond my owned tiles, my hunters and butcher immediately ran out of resources.

Boars migrate over time and can even leave the area completely, especially so if you build too much near the forest, limit the forest to a small area, or encircle the forest with your town.

The best practice to keep hunting and boars from leaving is to keep a big (at least 10-20 boar icons) virgin forest at the outskirts of your village

I noticed they leave, so i had purchased a brand new tile of forest and left it untouched. My hunters are at the edge of my previous tile. Boars were respawning fine until i saved and reloaded the game the next day. Maybe theres something im not noticing. Ill try again when i get enough cash for another tile. Ty for the reply.

If you continue to have issues with boar please could you send your save file in to us to support@polymorph.games so that we can take a look, thanks!

Thanks to the handy auto-save feature, I was able to eventually figure this out and it’s not a bug. I’m just experiencing unexpected consequence. I tried all kinds of things, moving back my residential area, not allowing woodcutters anywhere near the hunting ground, moving my hunter huts further back and all none of these things helped. After a certain amount of time, boars would no longer spawn in my hunting ground.

What I eventually figured out, is that the boars can respawn far away and do so in a somewhat randomized ‘scattered’ pattern. Once a boar respawns in a neighboring tile that you don’t own, he will never come back because hunters won’t cross the border. This created a situation where I bought a brand-new tile that had nothing but forest and boars and even without building a single thing in that entire tile, the boars slowly disappeared as they eventually respawn in a neighboring tile, making themselves unreachable.

Since all generated forests span multiple tiles, the only way I see out of this is to purchase multiple tiles and cut off the forest to surround the boars before building the hunters and butchers. But I think this will only work if the boars don’t jump to a different forest on respawn. I haven’t had enough time to test if boars can jump across grass to respawn in a neighboring forest, but hopefully not.

Sorry for the confusion. I think the easiest answer is to implement baking or cheese making, which can thrive in a single tile. Hunting might be available early, but the roaming makes it more complicated to implement sustainably.

I too am experiencing an issue with boars (Ver1). In my territory, there are forests on two of the edges, which continue on (attached) in the neighbouring territories. My forests (in my territory) do not have any/many buildings, so I don't think it's a 'too close to buildings' thing.

There are LOADS of boars in the forest areas in the neighbouring territory, but it's clear that there is a distinct cutoff of boars right at the border between my territory and the neighbour. Half of the forest is in my territory, and half is in the neighbouring one... yet my territory's section is completely void of boars, whereas the neighbouring one is filled, going right up to the border, where it gets sharply erased of boars.

Tried reloading the save, waiting to see if something spawned in over time, and whatever else I could think of, but it seems almost like a 'Forbidden' area was painted in my territory, right up to the border (...but for boars).

Not sure what to do. Everything else seems to be functioning fine.

If I figure anything out, I'll post here so you can give it a try...

Also having this issue, even moved my hunting cabin and it worked for a bit, but then they were all gone again and don't seem to come back (or come back way too slowly?) Theres a ton of them just over the line outside my owned territory
I had to buy and entire forest land (the isle of my current map) and keep it empty to get boars. In 1.0, getting meat is a just pain. If my village doesn't explode because of finance crash I'll import meat ASAP as there's no catering features.
