Can't Open Foundation in Steam since last update, even after re-installation..?
Ever since the last update for Foundation I can't even open the game in Steam anymore, you hit play, and it changes to running, even after 5min nothing opens, still says running, nothing in taskbar, even checked Task Manager and no Foundation is listed as a running program. I try to close Steam it says "waiting for foundation to exit" which will stay like that until you hit "exit now"......I have reinstalled Foundation twice now and the exact same thing occurs everytime. I have no issues like this with any of my other 34 games, they all play normally. So what gives here? And how do I go about fixing it besides re-installing which doesn't do anything (I even deleted the Foundation empty folder the second re-install and still it won't open at all). Some help would be appreciated thanks

The most likely case for that is that your antivirus is blocking the game from showing and instead is running it in a secure background window.

I would recommend for a start trying running steam and the foundation.exe as administrator as well as adding the path to the foundation.exe to your antivirus' exclusions list

Definitely no background window, can't even see it anywhere in taskmanager even in processes. Added an exclusion just now in Anti-virus/firewall as well as running as administrator just in case but says already running in administrator. Thanks for suggestions anyways though. I'm not having any issues with games except this one

Hmm ok can you try adding this launch option for the game (you can ofc set whatever path you want just make sure it is outside the Documents folder): -userpath C:\foundationdata\

Just FYI a background "safe" window started by the antivirus does indeed not show up in the task manager

If you cannot complete the download that is a steam client related issue and not game related, you can contact their support for further assistance as there isn't anything we can really do about that.

If the game is not starting:

- perform a "Clean install" of your GPU drivers. These can often become corrupt and is a common issue. A clean install should fix this
- For Nvidia: In GeForce experience choose "custom install" > check the box for "Perform clean installation"
- For AMD: you can use the AMD driver removal tool[www.amd.com] then reinstall the most recent drivers

- Check for Windows updates

- run both Steam and the foundation.exe as an adminstrator. locate both > right click on the .exe then "run as admin". This will often show if there are further issues such as missing Microsoft runtime files

- Clear your Steam download cache

- add an exception to your antivirus for the Game as well as the 'Polymorph Games' Folder in Documents. You can also temporarily disable your antivirus to check if this is the issue

If after doing the above you are still having issues, please send us
1) your foundation.log file located here: \Documents\Polymorph Games\Foundation
2) a Dxdiag report. More info on how to run Dxdiag can be found here[support.microsoft.com]

You can send both files to support@polymorph.games where we will investigate further

Setting the game up to always start as Administrator fixed the issues for me. I just had to navigate down to the executable for the game, deep within the bowels of the Steam folders.

I have exactly the same problem, I can't start the game at all, steam says that the game is running, but it's not and I always have to restart the whole PC

Please do not necro old threads as this one, I will be locking it now.

If the above information did not help with your issue it could also be that your antivirus is blocking the game's visual output, try adding exceptions for both the foundation.exe as well as the Foundation Documents folder.

If you need further help please make a new thread or join us on discord for more direct support: discord.gg/foundation
