With the exception of one, all the houses are high or very high. I'm wondering if it's a population issue, or maybe everyone who lives in the house has to be a commoner. I'm going to experiment a bit and see. The game has been crashing almost daily and asking me to send a report, so I'm worried I might just be bugged.
How do I share the save file?
Thank you for your help.

At the end of the month I promoted all 8 of them to commoners and as expected the lvl 1 houses do not fill their housing need and they take a negative happiness modifier.
Then I added a few decorative trees around the 4 houses to increase their desirability to High or Very High and turned housing upgrades on from the village panel (opens from the button with the villager count on the top left) where you probably accidentally had turned them off.
Finally two of the houses upgraded to lvl 2 while 1 of them also upgraded to density 2 to house your villagers, so 6 commoners moved in one and the other 2 remained in the other leaving the 2 lvl 1 houses empty for new serfs to move in when you upgrade your remaining newcomers.
PS: you have painted red zone in front of one of your bridges and thus blocked the trader from visiting your village, you should remove that red zone ;)
This did it! Thank you. Apologies for the delay.
