Hi there, i cannot figure out how to build a cloister. I followed the tips already provided, so it is completely enclosed , and connected to a piece of my scriptorium in this case, theres a normal and the cloister door leading into the courtyard. any help on whats wrong ?

(that was not the right link, from the url you provided you want to click on "share" and copy the link given there)

My guess would be that the problem is the door on the building.
Either that or the area is too small.

I built mine around the monastic garden and it finally worked, not sure why. I used three sides for cloister, I also had a big monastery at the time (75).

I think it is not recognizing the standard door you (may) have that is attached to your building (scriptorium), and that is pointing towards the inside of the cloister. You need to use an official cloister entrance-way. Remove a single cloister part, and replace it with a cloister entrance. Make sure this entrance part, is pointing towards the open courtyard of the cloister (you should see a small green arrow).

Building the cloister is a pain. I finally came up with a method that works. I build a door out the back of the monastery, usually extending a corridor piece with ab outside door at the back end. Then I start the cloister by building two cloister corridor pieces from each side of the door, then a corner piece one each end, the (on each side) a corridor piece, a cloister door piece opening to the center of the cloister, another corridor piece and a corner piece. Then I close off the back with corridor pieces. They don't always end exactly fitting, but they fit well enough that the interior of the cloister shows green and closed and the thing somehow works--at least the monks and nuns stop complaining about blocked paths.

Cloisters were always built next to other monastery buildings, with direct access; they were never built apart. (Have a look at internet photos.) The game reflects that well.

I tried out some different options and doors, yet nothing seems to work.

Pretty much anything works tho if i have the whole thing in blueprint mode ...

Do i have to rebuild my whole monastery for this to work ?

the cloister needs to be a complete rectangle, not interrupted by a monastery building.

Attach your cloister corridor to the outside of a monastery building, then build a square or rectangle cloister. Add the door to the monastery building and one to the inside of the cloister, and it should work.

... the background being that the cloister was supposed to serve self-reflection, prayer, etc., separate from the daily business going on in the monastery itself.

So, again, separate the cloister from the monastery, complete it as a square or a rectangle at any size you like, then connect with a door to the monastery.

Sorry for the multiple responses... Apparently I was wrong about the cloister needing to be a separate square/rectangle, however, that type of setup did work for me after some initial problems. Also, it looks nice (and is much more realistic this way)

I tried pretty much every combination, but nothing. i now took the hard way , and deleted the monastery, put everything back, and now- in blueprint mode, it finally works !!
