I am baffled, why is there no day night cycle, but you can change it cosmetically?
Why is the day night cycle not happening dynamically during the game?

Why is it just a cosmetic option in the lower left?

The game counts days and weeks, surely you can hook a day night cycle onto that?

The weather too.

Doesn't need to have the biggest impact gameplay wise but surely it would liven up the place visually.

As OP stated: bottom left of the screen. There is an icon to switch between day, night, dawn/dusk and rain. But for now only manually and only cosmetic.

I prefer it as it is now BUT I definitely think there should be an option to let it auto-cycle for those that want that.

If the day night cycle was hooked to the clock it would look very weird and too fast imo

but sure there should be a day night automatic cycling mechanism

I disagree. Something that can be toggled on/off is much better. And that is already implemented.

not if you tie it to the months or years

Or, just for the sake of avoiding a fast cycle, you could just make it slower than the current clock. For example, assuming you're playing in 3x speed, the day and night cycle could be 3x slower than the clock to keep a consistent looking cycle. Then, changing your speed to 1x, then the day night cycle could be playing at normal speed.
Since we compensate the speed by slowing down the exact same speed, it should still look coherent when you go back to default game speed.
