My monks and nuns are not reproducing
I created a "mixed" monastery that includes both monks and nuns with the hope of creating a self-replenishing "home grown" system so that I don't have to commit valuable immigrants to my monastery. I initially assigned 2 monks and 2 nuns to the monastery. I have ensured that the nun dormitory module and the monk dormitory module are adjacent and "snapped" together. It has been more than an hour of in-game time with the speed setting on 2x and the population of my monastery has remained stagnant. I committed one additional monk and one additional nun from my available immigrants but that did not seem to solve the problem. I'm working on unlocking the clergy "tech tree" but none of the little description blurbs indicate that any of those techs/perks will speed up the reproduction process. I hesitate to comb the forums for an answer to this, as I love to figure out problems like this on my own, but I am totally stumped here. I almost wish that I had just made a single gender monastery, which would have been more realistic/historically accurate, but I really wanted to create a self-sustaining population. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Following this to better understand how this works in game as if breeding is possible it would make the sisters who slapped my knuckles with a wooden ruler in Catholic military school blush the most beautiful shade of pink.

Oh just to tidy this up, I'm not Catholic but my partner is and let's me in on all things Catholicism I don't know.

Afaik, for this to work, you have to build your monastery on a bridge between 2 hills and over a lake.

The game operates on a medieval "Christian" aesthetic, but not on the corresponding moral paradigm. For instance, in the game you can have female priestesses. So, while I understand your sentiment, I don't think its accurate to compare the in-game nuns with your real life experiences of Catholic military school nuns.
Well, if accuracy is your concern, then: no, there are no births or aging in this game.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't really comparing just saying a little of my experience as a child.

Again thanks for the info, I'm still interested i n knowing how this actually functions and why it's not working for you, and as the Monastery is where one of my future saves will be once I get down the other 3 roles.

There is no reproducing among the villagers, so I don't understand how anyone would come to the conclusion that monks and nuns would. You will have to commit immigrants or current residents of your village to the monestary.

Get thee to a nunnery. Farewell. Or, if thou wilt needs marry, marry a fool, for wise men know well enough what monsters you make of them. To a nunnery go, and quickly too.

First of all, monks and nuns are not supposed to be reproducing, in the Middle Ages or now. They have taken vows and if they don't stick to them, they will burn in hell. Furthermore, in Foundation everybody is chaste: they have no choice.

But kudos for the title.

There is death tho, since we have graves. Which raises all sorts of questions about this world.

That's not how nuns or monks work 'by default'. Please study history before speaking.

You mean there were sinners among them? But that is terrible!

Has anyone noticed the current behaviour of villagers on benches? I have them very definitely sitting on other people's laps. I didn't dare invade their privacy by staring. But just saying :-)

Celibacy was not enforced until the 11th century - before that Priests could and did get married. I do think Monks are required to be celibate.. but ....

Well it seems quite wide ranged when monks or nuns were allowed to wed as well as their religion, denomination time period and location etc.
SO

Maybe we should simply focus on this being a game, is there or is there not a game function coded into the game to allow the nuns and monks to reproduce?

It would seem that this is not a function coded into the game by players stating there is no other AI human style characters in game being able to reproduce and leaves it up to migration?
