Taverns do NOT show usage, they show who is inside RIGHT NOW, and since it only takes a second to fill the need and leave, and because serfs dont drink at all, only visitors and promoted villagers do, MOST of the time nobody is going to be inside.
Do you know how much (how often) Commoners and Citizens drink? I've been trying to figure out the min-max on how large a Tavern actually needs to be.
Like, if a Commoner+ only drinks once every other day, and I have 40 of them in the city, then the Tavern only needs to have space for 20, right?
I haven't stopped to watch them long enough to figure it out, so I'm hoping someone else can save me the trouble, lol.
Taverns need a lounge area for customers (usually size of 20 or so is good.)
Tavern also needs a sub building (press the +) and create a service counter.
You need to create a new sub building for each type of alcohol you want to sell. There is three alcohols Berry Brew, Beer, and Wine.
You can also add a kitchen later to serve meals.
For service counters: (Needs to be attached to lounge)
As mentioned above you need to have a subbuilding for type of alcohol you want to serve. You can serve just berry brew, however some later customers want beer or wine.
You should have minimum service counter size of 2 workers. That way one may always be on duty, allows one to go get more alcohol, and to be able to satisfy each others entertainment if they are a commoner.
For Lodging: (Does not need to be attached to a tavern)
All you need for lodging is just space for guests. The guess will then go visit your town and satisfy their needs using up your resources. However you get paid really well in return if they satisfy their needs.
For Berry Brewing: (Does not need to be attached to a tavern)
Berry brew is the easiest to make since it only uses berries. It also does not need any extravagant unlocks of building space like wines and beer. All it needs is a building with a door and chimney, keeping up with the berry consumption is a different matter.
Soldiers from the castle, however, have a habit of all going drinking together, partly because the companies always do things AS a company, not as individuals, and partly because MULTIPLE companies all go on a mission together, so they all get back together, then all go fill their needs together. This can cause demand spikes, where suddenly dozens of people are trying to use the tavern at once, and if they cant all fit inside, it'll throw a 'no access to entertainment' warning, which can be frustrating because when you go to investigate it, the tavern is no longer full, there's plenty of booze, and nobody has unfilled entertainment need.
The minimum you need is roughly 2 plus 1 spot per 10 promoted villagers, plus 15 for visitor parties. This may still throw a phantom entertainment warning from time to time if 2 groups of visitors try to drink at the same time, so I like to go with a minimum of 30 spaces for visitors. Once you get a castle, however, you need to add enough capacity to hold every soldier and knight as well as the normal requirements, so if you have 4 companies of 10 all promoted to soldier or above, you need to add another 40 capacity to the tavern to avoid phantom warnings.
I have been working on the prestigious berg achievements and have yet to mess with the military since release (which looks like it got lots of changes.)
