Are Watchtowers useless?
I mean, the watchtower should provide patrol to houses but i think it just gives little fortification, wich can be achieved with a long tower with passive fort

Village Watchtowers? No. Sort of. Not really, no.

City Watchtowers -- yes!

It's a difference of light vs heavy fortification. Light fortification is much much much more easily obtained passively through bell and manor towers.
Watchtowers are simply an option to having walls around your village or towers in your monuments.

What I did in my village which was convenient was to have a light fortification wall and add heavy fortification watchtowers on it to cover my houses with both kinds of fortification

Doesn't heavy fortification count as light? Thought i saw that goods maker accepts heavy fort even tho it requires only light.
Yes heavy does also count as light, but if you already have a wooden wall for light why demolish it and risk houses downgrade, just adding a few heavy watchtowers does the trick though granted it requires watchmen as workers
i like watchtowers, they look lots better than the wooden walls. so im glad that im not forced to build them and i have the option
What tech unlocks heavy watchtowers? I only have the heavy fortification module on my castle.
Watchtower is how things works, it's walls who are useless ! Try to defend a city with only a wall and you will understand fast ...

But in this game watchtowers can be useless if you want. It's a good option if people like it, for me it's not RP.
