Storage range?
This goes for both my storage and granary. It feels as if there is a range limit on them. I read several forums now, where people are full on dedicated to the idea that building don't have a range in this game, but for some reason, when I place a storage or granary just far enough away, they never go to pick up materials that is requested.

The problem with this is not so much that they don't fill storage X, but that they don't distribute between them. Even if I make districts with a storage each, so they can distrubute materials for the workers, if it's too large they just don't.

It would be extremely helpful if there were some form of clear indication of how far the storage range really is.

So in the end of that rambling, anyone got some tips and tricks? Maybe there is something I completely missed?

Select "Stock maximum" in the distant storage. And try to have an over production of materials.

stock max on a granary will pull food from beyond radius, but in my testing of it the warehouse would not pull from beyond its radius. Nor will it pull from other warehouses set to stock max that ARE within range, so you cant daisy-chain depots across town.

Range for everything in this game is 150m (default paint brush size is 24m)

A ring showing the building's effective area when you are placing/editing it would be fantastic.

I see, so that is how you would setup another market place:
- Put storage far enough away
- Produce everything locally that you want to sell there

It's a pity there are no lower limits on storages like there are for trade, because the "stock to maximum" leaves the source empty.
That means it is impossible to produce maybe fish and distribute it to one or more other storages while having a stockpile remaining at the source.

Having a building-specific zone to tell a storage from where to pull resources would also be helpful in that regard.

This was my solution. The market in the center of the city sells everything, and pulls resources from 2 sources. One is the granary also in the center of the city, which stocks all 6 food items, plus wine, beer, herbs, and honey, and is set to stock max for all. The 2nd source is the warehouses, which are located just outside the gates in the city walls, but just close enough to still be in range of the market. There's a ring of industry buildings on the far side of the warehouses, and then all my raw materials/food production is on the far side of the industries. 3 sides of the city are devoted to production, one side has the castle and monestary with more agriculture past it.

The setup even allows for extra resource production 'small villages' located past the 1st agriculture ring, because you could set the warhouses by the gates to stock max, stick a warehouse as far away as possible but still in range for it to pull from, and have industry feed their output into that one.

Sure, concentric rings is the only pattern favoured by the current rules.

"Stock to max" works best with only one central marketplace. If the map doesn't support the rings you are going to have big walking distances.

When things like this happen, i get the urge to mouse over the individual in question and backhand them like you could in Dungeon Keeper, lol.

As for ranging, i've got a mining village thats defo more than 150m away from main town; they do transfer the resources but it does tend to need some micro-managing to work, ie: Stock Max where it needs to be asap and Refusing the place(s) its not needed right away. And as Ninja said, having a surplus of what it is youre trying to shift helps.

But it does tend to be a case of waiting for A to fill before B will take overflow - also need to take into account how busy your transporters are, if youve got them running around like headless chickens then they might be focussed on the closer jobs before they get around to the more distant ones, which seemingly all gets reset when they go for break and return, lol

did you miss the part where i said "stock max" in the granary can override range?
