Can't Edit Church
I'm having an issue where I can't edit a church at all - won't let me add building parts or decoration parts. When I place them the apply changes button stays greyed out. I have all the required materials and gold. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Something about one of the placements is off -- very plausibly distance. Something is where it cannot or should not be built.
Can you post a screenshot of the dialog window?

All you're doing is adding a cross to the roof.? Hmm. That seems simple enough. I wonder if it doesn't like being on that seam between the two parts. If you move the cross to a different snap point or turn snapping off, does that affect anything?

That is just the example I used to show what the issue is. I can't place any decorations like the cross, any additional rooms or building parts, or any decorations on the ground. It won;t let me edit anything in the church complex at all. Looks like it might be a bug I should report.
That sounds borke. Definitely not something I can deduce. Since you can add literal actual nothing, I'd definitely report it.
stupid question, but i think i spotted the problem...whats that in the bottom right of the monestary with the blocked red arrow? Unblock that

I did see that. It's a bench that people are using so it's blocked but not really. I also can't remove that either, option is still greyed out too! Definitely bugged so I'll submit a report
It's not actually blocked. Benches are weird. The triangle points in the direction people face when they sit on it, and it's always red. Even if it was truly blocked, it wouldn't prevent completing the build. The game does't care if you clip or block access until a villager gets involved.

I had this issue, but found it was something I had placed (that needed a wall snap point) and then moved the structure which meant it was no longer on the snap point, the item was then inside of the building where I could not see it was red, try zooming right in and see if you can find anything.
move it all away one component at a time, then confirm you dont have some wierd decoration half under ground, then move it back

Unless I'm reading the screenshot wrong, the entire church already exists. Look at the green +4 in the corner of the screenshot. He's only adding a single part, which you can see is a cross on top of the church. They're cancelling all changes and then going back in to edit over and over with the same result no matter what part or parts they try to add. Maybe you're right, but moving the existing structure seems a very unlikely solution.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have now tried moving the whole structure and taking it apart and deleting items starting with decorations and then each room piece one at a time. All end up with not being able to accept the changes due to a greyed out button.

Definitely a bug and I've submitted a report for it. Weird little bug but hopefully it can be fixed!
It may be that you are trying to build on a residential plot? i notice the walls/fences of your homes have been removed? so it might be a case of overlapping by a pixel or two and thats causing the issue? (the house itself afaik wont glow red unless you are actively placing an item pretty much on top of it (or at least in my experience anyway)

Do you have a Visitors Arrow or Meeting point for the church at all? could be that; but looks like an ordinary church not a monastery.

Gut tells me its the homes tho - save the game under a new name, delete houses, try building church - if that works, you'll have to decide if u want to reload and alter the layout or continue with eviction.

As for the bench, that could be it too, but you'd have to edit the bench separately if its just a random beautification piece and not part of the church.
