How to delete parts of Fortifaction Wall?

I wanted to expand my wall after buying more territory but can't figure out how to knock down a part of the wall. I can 'delete' the little white bending nodes but it doesn't delete the wall section. I've restarted a game I was 5 hours into because I rage quit after 15 mins of trying to figure it out.

I think you can click between two wall nodes and then click the shovel icon that appears above it.
