Life cycle?
Tried the demo and bought the game. Now I see that there is no life cycle, families, births and death. Only immigrants and the population never decreases.
Is this true?

I never played the demo but no, there is no life cycle. And population only decreases when people leave because they're unhappy or when a soldier dies on a mission.

Foundation has no such mechanics as they don't really fit it as a game and would have made micromanaging much more intense which would go contrary to the relaxed nature of the game.

PS: The demo doesn't include those either nor does it have any indication towards them so not sure why you might have thought they would be part of the game. Please do let us know if something towards that is unclear in the demo to check on it

I assumed that being a city builder/sim colony it had a life cycle like most games in this genre.

I remember these discussions from a while ago. It seems that life cycle can't be added later - it should be implemented from the very start and the developers chose not to. You can still make cemeteries, if you want to; actually, you will probably have to because they give splendor points.

Ah I see, yeah Foundation is more settlers-like that has no life cycle (except for death as it has combat same with Foundation's missions where soldiers could die)

It was tested and discussed within the dev team, but in the end it was decided that birth death would add too much micromanagement and not enhance the gameplay experience. I.e. in Foundation you don't assign families to workplaces or a similar system but individual villagers so when someone died you would have to manually go and replace them. Or ofc as you said rewrite the whole thing from scratch with a different system in mind.
