PS: The demo doesn't include those either nor does it have any indication towards them so not sure why you might have thought they would be part of the game. Please do let us know if something towards that is unclear in the demo to check on it
It was tested and discussed within the dev team, but in the end it was decided that birth death would add too much micromanagement and not enhance the gameplay experience. I.e. in Foundation you don't assign families to workplaces or a similar system but individual villagers so when someone died you would have to manually go and replace them. Or ofc as you said rewrite the whole thing from scratch with a different system in mind.
