Does this game challenge the player?
I've read that it's a relaxing game, but I'm not sure that necessarily means easy. I'd like a game where I have to understand the mechanics so I don't run out of resources, where I regret my decisions, where my population isn't always happy, and where everything is a piece of cake... Is that game challenging in that sense?
thanks

I find the "challenge" difficulty setting to be exactly what you describe, especially at the beginning/middle game.

I think so! You can fail missions which effect your reputation in a sense. Your soldiers can perish (off screen). You can run out of resources. You can make an undesireable, ugly layout which you can fix, at a cost. Your villagers can become so unhappy that they leave.

no, even in the "challenge" difficulty there is not much of a challenge, it's just more time to get what you want. Also there is 0 possible way to fail the game

the only annoying thing that can happen to you are deadlock, for example if you use all your tools too soon

Yes but often for the wrong reasons. You have to account for the game doing crazy things with the different tiers of housing and the resource sink that becomes. Then there are production buildings that will be "waiting on workers" for ages.

It can be a genuinely interesting challenge figuring out why your city's trade revenue has dried up but I wish the answers were more fun.
Thanks, I get the idea.

If you like these kind of games in general its a must buy recommendation from me.
Ive played a lot of these games and i think this is one of the best ones ive ever played, if not THE best one, actually. I do wish there were some kind of combat and more direct use of soldiers somehow.

Here you train them, equip them, choose mission with rewards and chance of success, they leave for a time off map and return after a while, or not, depending on the difficulty of the mission.

But the game is definitely challenging in its own way, especially if enjoy perfecting things.
I love creating markets, (among many things) its never the same and it always feels great when you get it right!

You can also, for sure get punished for the choices you make and dont make and fortunately its not too demanding to fix your mistakes.

8.7/10 "Here is my money."

(Have barely tried Manor Lords though so its not in the equation here.)

im playing harder difficulty and at the beginning it's mainly just waiting for the money to arrive, nothing else, just waiting

well, the difficulty is to keep something organized as you wish when you grow, not winning money or managing production.

How would you compare it to Timberborn? That game is challenging me like crazy at the start of the game but becomes a walk in the park later on (because food/water does not spoil). I love Timbeborn though.

I feel Timberborn is way more technical in approaches that grants success... if that makes sense.
TB also doesnt have too much happening around it besides the building.
In Foundation there are promts from Lords, Priests and whatnot about all kinds of things. You send out Squads on various missions.
Build and trade missions.

And one thing i also like about FD is that you can actually build neighbourhoods away from center without massive penalties. Which then gives you the opportunity to build whatever you can think of cause the building system, at least for Manors and some other buildings, you can basically design your own manors, castles, cattedrals etc.

And perfecting and being creative and having fun with the building is refreshing as opposed to min maxing everything in squares.

Hope it helps.
it challenges your patience. (Bug)
