Also there is some randomness due to other tasks that might prevent the workers from actually getting to the farm house efficiently in the first place... Do they need to cross the entire city to get food or water? Do they live really close or half way across town? etc... They will still work a full shift when they get to the farmhouse but the planting window only stays open for so long.
Dono about any glowyiness. Nothing stands out when I set up my fields.
Seems the ideal setup is to move farms off the roads and plant fields in a circle around them to lower the overall travelling they'll do during planting. Leaving a thin line back to the road.

Honestly layouts and preferences will probably change from person to person so you will probably get alot of different opinions. Especially since this game is grid-less, if you worry about it too much then your going to drive yourself down a rabbit hole of counting pixels to get the most optimal placement and go insane :P
