Does wheat field size matter?
I can never seem to keep the windmill/bakery running full time, even with three farms active. I've done some upgrades to the farms - they've got five workers in them and have a hay barn for extra storage.

I've seen things said that the size of the wheat field doesn't actually affect how much you get from it (which seems kinda counter-intuitive, but ok...). Those postings say that all you need is the maximum brush size for painting the field - just plop it down and your done. Many of those postings are older, pre 1.0 information.

I would think that three farms, with five workers each, would be able to keep a windmill (and thus bakery) busy even while the farms are resting, planting, growing until the next harvest. But that's just not what's happening.

Any pointers or other information?

When you have as many workers employed as you plan to, and then each time you add more, you can see in the wheat farm screen what the game expects. It will tell you either that the field size is insufficient, adequate or whatever, near the bottom. Just keep in mind it can change as you update your workers over time, so you have to check when changes occur.
make sure there are granaries nearby where wheat is stored. The millers don't go to the farms to get the wheat; they get it from the nearest granary. If the nearest granary is very far away you will get a bottleneck.

Logistics/supply chains are really important in this game as your settlement grows.

Yeah, there's a granary near the farms and the windmill & bakery. I forgot to mention that.

When you build your wheat field you need to make it so it gives the "too large for these workers" then scale it back. If you stop painting fields once you see "adequate" then you are going to have a smaller field.

Also keep in mind you can buy wheat farm upgrade later that increase amount of workers and farm storage. Which will allow you to make the field even larger.

My last game I had one maxed upgraded farm and a second farm that was the default normal and I was able to make bread for 200 population.

one wheat farm for only three workers is far too big. it is damn near 1/3 my entire village for 81 people :/
