No, it's not.

Not a spiritual successor but the patrol aspect giving security to houses along the route is absolutely similar to those classic games. But that was only added in this recent 1.0 release.

Oh Dude I LOOOOOOVE the game "Emperor - Rise of the Middle Kingdom" and it is still available on GOG I guess. There are even HD or FullHD workarounds. Great great game still today. Love it. And I loved all the other ones aswell. But Emperor was the best inho due to the adjustable doors.

That being said I dont see any big paralells to this game which I could not find in other old city builders.

The Ceasar games, at least I-III, IV was ♥♥♥♥; the Zeus games, the old Pharao games and the Emperor game are all the "same": housing is upgrading according to fulfilled needs. But: all needs are fulfilled by a patrol guy coming from that buidling. So: If you need the food need fulfilled, the marketstand guy had to walkt past your housing, the same with religion and entertainment.

In Foundation it is completly different: The people itself have to walk to the building, go to church, go to the market and buy stuff, go to work (in the games above the dont "go" to work, the workside-scout has to reach a housing area once by patrolling an thats it).

You might argue that the patrol aspect is similar, yes, but thats a mechanic in many many games. I would not got that far to say it is "almost the same". No.

Its the same that you need to build a city. Nothing more. And thats the same in every "city builder" game - like the name suggests.

And dont forget the two CORE mechanics of Foundation:
  • free and organic housing in a designated area - completly different in those games above (here you literally place housing spots, can use it to you advantage if you build 3*3 or 4*4 parcels on after another (the old ones) or in Emperor: you just build houses, normal ones and the ones for the rich. Nothing organic there)
  • free, modular and endlessly creative buildings like manor house, castle, monestary, tavern and so on - completly different in those games above (there you just have a building. Done. Nothing more to do. Need a Colloseum? Build one. Need a temple? build one. Nothing to adapt, no difference, all the same) - And Dont get me on the BIG monuments in Zeus, Pharao and Emperor (Ceasar did not have any): Those monuments are big construciton sites, yes, but they are not modular in any way aswell; They are just big and sometimes dont even fulfill a puporse - like the Clock tower in Emperor, or the Tumulus in Emperor.

So no Sir, I dont see any reason to call Foundation a spirituayl successor of Emperor - Rise of the Middle Kingdom and/or a "almost similar" gameplay.

PS: Foundation is way closer to the old Settler games, like Settlers III. Take a look into those games.

I've not played any of those other games and the only other game similar to this that I *have* played was Emperor.....hence the post......
As I tried to deliberately elaborate to you, Emperor is not more similar to Foundation than any other city builder, since the only similarities are "building a city" and "having patrols" - core mechanics of those two games completely different thought, at least in my opinion.
I loved that game and the game play is NOTHING like it.....

Yeah I was pretty hooked when this game was announced by then I saw a lot of negative reviews, so I never bought it. Do you recommend it?
This is more like The Settlers than the Impressions series of games (best city builders ever made).

:steamsad:

Fine, it's not the same, just barely the same, happy?

By your logic EVERY 'city builder' is the same game?

I don't need to be happy - you have your opinion and I don't share it. It is not the end of the world, I am not angry nor do I want to persuade you. I made my point, I have my reasons, everything else is not important enough for me.

I enjoyed it to go back to those games, at least in my memory. I had fun to somewhat analyze the different game mechanics and I had fun to put it in words (not my native tongue).

But it is not eonough to have a real argument about it. If you still think, that it is almost the same or now just barely the same - it is Allright. It is your choice, no hustle, I will tolerate both if them.

In my logic kind of it is yes... As a child I was hooked just by a new topic of a city builder. But nowadays a new topic can't get me hooked as much anymore if the mechanics stay the same. That's why I like Foundation at the moment, I like the new mechanic or organic housing and the creative aspect of monuments (Manor House, Church, Feste, etc)

But I am also aware that every city builder isn't the same actually. Of course they are all different on many levels.

It is as it is: a matter of taste.
OP you need to reduce your drugs induction asap... those two games are no way similar.
