Oh Dude I LOOOOOOVE the game "Emperor - Rise of the Middle Kingdom" and it is still available on GOG I guess. There are even HD or FullHD workarounds. Great great game still today. Love it. And I loved all the other ones aswell. But Emperor was the best inho due to the adjustable doors.
That being said I dont see any big paralells to this game which I could not find in other old city builders.
The Ceasar games, at least I-III, IV was ♥♥♥♥; the Zeus games, the old Pharao games and the Emperor game are all the "same": housing is upgrading according to fulfilled needs. But: all needs are fulfilled by a patrol guy coming from that buidling. So: If you need the food need fulfilled, the marketstand guy had to walkt past your housing, the same with religion and entertainment.
In Foundation it is completly different: The people itself have to walk to the building, go to church, go to the market and buy stuff, go to work (in the games above the dont "go" to work, the workside-scout has to reach a housing area once by patrolling an thats it).
You might argue that the patrol aspect is similar, yes, but thats a mechanic in many many games. I would not got that far to say it is "almost the same". No.
Its the same that you need to build a city. Nothing more. And thats the same in every "city builder" game - like the name suggests.
And dont forget the two CORE mechanics of Foundation:
So no Sir, I dont see any reason to call Foundation a spirituayl successor of Emperor - Rise of the Middle Kingdom and/or a "almost similar" gameplay.
PS: Foundation is way closer to the old Settler games, like Settlers III. Take a look into those games.
As I stated and agree on.
Yeah I was pretty hooked when this game was announced by then I saw a lot of negative reviews, so I never bought it. Do you recommend it?
Agree. Agree. Agree. Agree. Agree.
Fine, it's not the same, just barely the same, happy?
By your logic EVERY 'city builder' is the same game?
I don't need to be happy - you have your opinion and I don't share it. It is not the end of the world, I am not angry nor do I want to persuade you. I made my point, I have my reasons, everything else is not important enough for me.
I enjoyed it to go back to those games, at least in my memory. I had fun to somewhat analyze the different game mechanics and I had fun to put it in words (not my native tongue).
But it is not eonough to have a real argument about it. If you still think, that it is almost the same or now just barely the same - it is Allright. It is your choice, no hustle, I will tolerate both if them.
In my logic kind of it is yes... As a child I was hooked just by a new topic of a city builder. But nowadays a new topic can't get me hooked as much anymore if the mechanics stay the same. That's why I like Foundation at the moment, I like the new mechanic or organic housing and the creative aspect of monuments (Manor House, Church, Feste, etc)
But I am also aware that every city builder isn't the same actually. Of course they are all different on many levels.
It is as it is: a matter of taste.
