I've done multiple games where I've tried to have a sustaineble boar forest. I don't do anything with it and yet all the Boars are gone. One or two appear every now and then but it's not near enough to keep the hunting camp running.
Maybe this is intentional game design to encourage us to developed agriculture and become less reliant on hunting and gathering?
I would assume not, considering meat is the first refined source you get, it would be quite the bad choice.
That being said, i've used the same patch of big forest to hunt. Just make sure there are like 20+ boar spots in a forest and they'll renew easily. I never run out.
