Land upkeep and Whip mechanic

We need a whip button in the game, progress can't wait for the "free time" of these people.

Also, why do I have to pay for the land I'm developing? It was a wasteland but not anymore thanks to me, I know I can change the settings but I just don't get it, maybe is to emulate taxes to the king?

Whip is a fun idea. It would be a nice way to influence things you want done quickly, but would have to lower the persons happiness for a while to avoid over using it.

Paying for new land: I just assume the king owns the entire map and you're buying it from him.

As someone who likes being productive at work while appreciating free time as free time, I am very much opposed to whip mechanics (unless there's a serious consequence in-game for using it).

I guess the payment for other regions is because that's how the game's economy works? It's not your land - it's the monarch's, I suppose. So getting more land would need to be paid? Just like you'd have to pay rent and/or development cost for land that you don't own in the real world?
