Just wondering what "refined food: is... I am asked to produce at least 1 different 'refined food' (the game says I have 0). At the moment I have berries and fish in large quantity. Thank you !!

berries and fish = rustic
meat, bread, cheese = refined
Meat, vegetables, cheese and bread if I recall correctly.
All, thank you so much for your very fast answers !!

Also: when you click on a villager and hover over the food entry in that list, I believe it shows you what type of food is expected for each of the villager's expectations (such as refined = bread and/or meat, as was already explained by the others in this thread). So if you're not sure, use the villagers' details to get more info on the more generic log entries.
Thank so much for the very detailed answer.

Is that why I had a "refined food shortage" despite swimming in meat and plenty of food stalls? They wanted bread?

Apparently, they need both, yeah.
Is there any way to get a reliable steady meat output? Hunters seem to overhunt an area pretty fast and then just sit there forever until the game has replentished. How big are your hunting grounds to get a steady supply?

Also if you mouse over the food and other items in the stock panel, it will tell you what category the food or material is in.

For hunters, they don't seem to have a very far range. So once they hunt out a fairly short distance from the hut, they just give up. So what I've done is have two hunting buildings in different areas and I keep one paused and unemployed. When one area is hunted out, I turn the other building on and boot out the hunted out one. That hunter will automatically go start working in the "fresh" one.
Great information - many thanks !

Berries Fish veggies are rustic
Meat, bread, cheese are refined
Tavern meals are luxury
The one thing that stumped me for a bit is if you however over the food icons it says berries, veggies are Mosaic but you will never fill that need to upgrade a Monk, the kitchen needs to make their specific meals for this to trigger.
