Do you have a close-by granary, near the wheat farms. Do you have the granary set to take in wheat. If you have those granary transporters constantly grabbing wheat from your farms, you might get more wheat. Because if a wheat farm, when harvesting, reaches it's maximum hold potential (I think it's 50), the farmers will not harvest more wheat, and the window of time for them to harvest will then expire, and your farms are left with wheat that can not be harvested and will disappear for the next/new crop cycle.

Wheat feels very bugged and underwhelming. It takes so much space for wheat fields and I had 4 farms with 7 people each that could not keep up with 1 mill and 1 bakery.

Hmm. That does not sound proper. There must be something wrong.
It takes 5 or 6 full size wheat farms to provide enough wheat for 1 windmill and 1 bakery. It takes a ton of space and provides very little bread.

Lol yeah the something wrong is the programming of the wheat fields. It should not take 3 tiles of wheat to fulfill 1 bakery and 1 mill.
na me too, it's super buggy
I have 1 upgraded farm pulling in around 300 wheat each season.
Thats enough for my 4ppl windmill to run nonstop all year long.

You could most likely get that output even higher as i didnt fiddle around with living area and travel time for those workers at all so far.

It´s not enough for a fully staffed backery, but i got the impression that 2 of these farms should be more than enough

I have four fully upgraded and staffed farms (so 20 farmers) with very large fields, and a granary helping with collecting grain during harvest (although it's not strictly necessary if you upgrade storage capacity of the farms - the miller are easily capable of fetching all the grain).
The 20 farmers are barely capable of keeping a half-staffed bakery running all year long which produces just barely enough bread to feed a town of ~100 people with bread as the only source of refined food.

I think the problem is not the amount of grain produced by the farms which is actually quite high. The problem is the insanely low conversion rate from grain to flour and from flour to bread.

Edit: Rereading Grimtorn's comment, I realize that maybe there is something wrong with my farms. I don't think any of my farms produces anything close to 300 grain per season. Maybe half of it.

Yea in my last game i Had 4 fully staffed wheat farms, and they couldnt even keep up with the demand of 1 mill.

Add on the fact that wheat fields are massive compared to territory sizes, I just gave up on making bread
I am maintaining a 142 population city with just 3 wheat farms, 1 mill, 1 bakery... So I think the problem alot of people are having is efficiency & logistics.

Upgraded Farms w/ Tooling Shacks (Multiple Sheds can be used on the same farm) allow more people to work the same farm. This lets you cover more space with fields & fewer buildings. Also a few upgrades to increase capacity of the farm so they don't fill the 50 storage as fast.

Granary Near Farm & Mill to collect wheat & Flour will save the workers of those buildings from having to move goods around. More time for them to spend doing their jobs.

Bakery Needs Commoners, not Serfs. Running with just Serfs cuts the efficiency of each worker in half and makes it unable to keep up with the city needs.

I have 110 pop right now with one farm, one mill with two ppl and one bakery with 2 ppl.
Also, make sure you are using hunting and butcher, serfs need one type so if you're trying to feed 100 on just bread then your faaaaaaaaaaacked

I REPEAT THIS : Bakery Needs Commoners, not Serfs. Running with just Serfs cuts the efficiency of each worker in half and makes it unable to keep up with the city needs. [/quote]

I had 4 fisheries, 2 tiles of hunting grounds, 3 tiles of farms and 4 berry gathering huts. The people demanded bread over everything else. Its not a sustainable product in this game. There is a lot of tweaking that needs to be done still.
Noticed that the millers now fetch grain directly off the farms. They also have way increased capacity.
But they do it rather seldom.

Now i upgraded to 2 farms and my mill seems unable to keep up.
120pop town, Fully staffed backery and mill. Bread starts to pile up.

I also build a butcher and 3 hunters to reduce the strain on a single food type.
Seems to work well so far.

Again, 110 pop. ONE farm, one mill with two ppl, one bakery with 2 ppl. One granary very close to get the wheat. i have like 90 spare bread with two market stalls 30 in each. I don't understand the issue other than be patient and learn the mechanics
