Monastery issues
Does anyone know how to get monks to work in the monastery? It says it auto assigns monks to jobs but nothing is happening.

Once you've built your monastery, you have to assign/send villagers to it (click on the chapel part option should pop up to assign/send male/female villager). Once they are assigned, the monastery auto assigns them to a position (garden, scriptorium, herbs etc...).

Yeah that's what i did but they are not being assigned to anything.

Same, I have 5 monks and 5 nuns, none of them are assigned to anything. I had one monk been assigned to the herbal garden, so I tried removing him there to see if he moves to another job, now no one works anymore.
You most likely have built your subbuildings as different monasteries instead of actually as subbuilding in a single monastery i.e. from the same single building menu

I built a monastery and added the herb garden. Monks were assigned to it but none of them began working; the warning said the garden needed "required number of parts required as resource deposit". I added Monastic Grange, the only resource deposit available; monks came to work there or rather, to lazy around since the warning remained in place and nobody started to work in the garden.
Completely stuck at this point. Is it a bug or something simple that I missed?

Click to edit your garden and see which part is marked as missing, there must be an indicator in the building window for it

If I click on planter(s) there are actually two warnings: Place the required number of parts categorized as "Production" or ... categorized as "Resource Depot". They don't tell which parts I am supposed to build.
I also added a scriptorium; that did not help but I noticed that similar warnings were appearing on it while it was being built, but they said what was not build yet and they disappeared after it was finished.
It seems like an oversight to me.
If you hover over the parts in the list you can see which are tagged production and which resource depot.

The only corresponding parts in the (monastery) list are other planters and scriptorium (for production) and monastic grange (for depot; it can and does accept manuscripts); I have them all. - I also added a refectory, just to build everything possible; functions fine but does not help.

Auto assign never works for me. I started by getting rid of everything, then I just added one monk and that one I could assign as beekeeper, for instance. What I just found out, if I open up an unemployed monks card, then go to a work location, if I am quick enough, I get a different assign window, where assigning him to any workplace actually works. Now I just open up the unemployed monk card and manually assign them to open slots. Really weird.
- The monastery part have to be in the same group.
- It requires certain ranks to work some of the jobs, which means promoting them by producing scripture.

In my case, monks were auto-assigned to all the work places, including planters, and they are working everywhere *except* in the garden.

I can't even assign them myself, the list closes before I can select anyone. Nothing is being auto-assigned for me. The monastery is all one building. Each part even states 'Working fine'.

EDIT: So, there is a tiny little + sign on the left that allows you to add sub-buildings... Geez, could have designed that better.

I must have done that because I have lots of unemployed monks that I can't assign. It's doing it for all the monuments, I can't figure out the UI to add multiple functions to a single building.

ah... I think I've figured it out. Is there any way to group my 7 different monasteries or am I screwed?

Screwed.

All parts need to be the same group as far as workers go, this is because you surrender the citizens to that specific monastery.

However there is some leeway with advanced techniques. You MAY be able to save some of the stuff by simply adding living space to the groups.

For example, the food store for monks does not need to be in the same group. Monks can travel to it from other groups as a customer, but not a worker. Scriptures count overall, so the scriptures do not necessarily have to come form the same group.

Here is a mix and match I did with a Tavern, Monastery, Keep, and Main Hall.
