Aren't fences supposed to stop villagers from going through them?
Because their not.

I've seen all kinds of villagers from farmers, transporters and more walk right through this wheat field to get to a satellite remote outpost village I put the fence around the field so I wouldn't have any paths running through my wheat field but that's not working.

Is there not a "medium-sized" gap on one end, and a "tiny-gap" in the fencing on the other side, that I see in your image? That may allow villagers to walk through. Maybe leave it as is, and place a small amount of "forbidden" paint in those two areas. Maybe that will do it.

Are those actually contiguous/linked?

Or, did you build them in segments alternating building from left to right and right to left?

The slats look like they're alternating.

I think you are correct.

1. A recently placed fence is not going to stop pathing. The game plots pathing before it is executed, then once executed it follows that path, even through blocked objects.

2. Not sure why you are not using the normal fencing, it is cheaper and quicker to install. Even comes in two types.

3. Tiny gaps do not matter as the actually footprint is larger than the fence (the blue box.)

4. Sometimes when a path goes through a blocked object they will continue to use it. Which may require the use of some forbidden painting outside the fence to give it a thick block so it forces a new path.

It's clearly not. It looks like you used the decoration fence to me personally.

Yeah, looked that way to me too, why I asked why he did not use the decoration fence instead?

I mean I make fences of the decoration ones, but only if I am buffing up splendor or beatification. Not much point to either in a wheat field.

I didn't know there was a difference. I used the fence in decorations that says it controls villagers movement and drew out one continuous fence with it, else what fence am I supposed to use? Thanks

Wait, did you all think I used the rustic fence one by one? That I did NOT do, i used a fence that you draw out and snap to the gates. Anyway, I deleted it and created a new one and now it's working.

You should be proud of that if you actually did. That's an impressively huge labour of love.

Wait, that actually is the wooden fence? It literally looks like you placed the single fence piece around in a circle, lol.

You can also use the forbidden brush once the fence is built to reinforce not going over it. Also useful if you don't want it fenced at all but want to get the pathing changed.

I would guess that the people that already had a route just jumped over the fence, but if you have contiuous fencing they should stop doing that and go around your field. The path will also disappear after a while.
Fences and the forbid zone are good deterrents and can force a readjustment of paths. But one great tip is using benches. Benches act as a huge incentive and will draw villagers to them. Line an area that you want to create a new path in with benches and you will be amazed how quickly the new path will form.
