Why can't you see resources in a territory when buying it?
The only way I can see resources is to purchase the production first in Progression, then I find out that there are no resources near me - that's absurd. Just give a resource overlay in the looking glass view so that I can see if nearby regions have what I want to make.

I end up having to save my game, buy the progression, look at the map, then reload if the stuff I want isn't nearby. (I played this game when it first came out years ago, and LOVED IT, just recently came back to it, I'm surprised some of this super basic stuff still isn't in the game.)

You found a good "work around," but I agree it would be nice to see more detail like all small stone & iron rocks, and fish spawning areas, on the entire map. And maybe a new button on the "looking glass" function would be great to have (one button revealing all 3 items: stone, iron, fish.)

For mineral resources, you need at least a Bailiff, first--level 2 or so on the Labor track. The Bailiff (and other similar courtiers, for the other tracks) has the ability to prospect for mineral resources: rock (for building), iron, gold, marble, and quartz (for glass). Once they have prospected and found a resource, you'll also see it on the overall map.

By the way, if you look at those big rock outcroppings around the play area, there are mossy and non-mossy areas. The non-mossy areas are mystery mineral resources. Once the Bailiff has prospected them (one prospecting trip per non-mossy area), they will visually show the mineral resource they hid. You'll see red rusty bits for iron, white for marble, gold crystals for gold, and pink crystals for quartz (for making glass).

Thanks for this, good info. I'm looking for the basic stuff before bailiff is even available. Just want to see where hunting regions are before I buy a region.
Everywhere with dense enough trees.

I agree with this. Playing on challenging once the upkeep costs get up there you want to know if you are going to be able to get your money's worth.

It also solves the whole does that forest have boar or water have fish? Which neither can be seen on the map unless you have unlocked the ability to make those buildings.

Totally agree.
When I start a new game I usually buy 2 or 3 territories and would love to know if those two territories next to mine have boars in them so I know which one I'll most benefit from.

Even if they have to make it semi-realistic and I have to pay a small amount to have one of the Kings people go on an expedition to tell me is there boars there or fish in the river there etc.

If I've replied to you about this already, I'm sorry for repeating myself. I replied about this last week but can't remember where.

The answer to that question is "All of them. Literal actual all of them." They may not be there when you move in, but Boar need only a forest of at least ~70m wide to begin spawning.

If you expand into a territory (even one with no forests at all) and want Boar there, use a Forester Camp to grow a forest and then watch as Boar start spawning in it.

Correct.
That is why in my response above, I excluded any necessary "peek" function that would be needed/helpful (with some kind of special button view) for boar.
The only 3 (major) things, I find useful with a special button view, would be stone, iron, and the fish spawning locations.

Speaking of which:

+1 (Primarily for Fish)

I found it hard for me to see those tiny areas, where the water was bubbling. The stone and iron locations are sometimes located in the middle of a forest, and really hard to find unless you zoom in, angle the view, and scout through a bunch of trees You almost want to pull your hair out. 8-)
