Citizens: how to promote commoner to citizen???
Hi guys,
I have a prosperity of 244 and a population of 196 (all commoners).
How do I promote them (or at least some of them) to citizen?
I have clothes, common wares, a few churches...
I have no idea how to proceed and this would be a game-breaker 😪
Same with the tavern, I can't get anyone to go into it, but that is probably cos I've read somewhere that only citizens can go in there....
I'm so stuck now!!
Any help is appreciated.

First of all promoting all your villagers is a bad idea and will lead to your village failing to deal with all their needs. Higher rank villagers have more needs and need more time to fulfil them as such they work less and as a result are less efficient than lower rank villagers for most jobs. Unless their job requires the higher rank it is unwise to promote that villager.

But to answer you question, to promote villagers you need to fulfil all their current rank needs, click on one of them and you will see which need is not being met.

The requirements are all essential and additional needs fully met.

Entertainment requires a tavern, with at the very least a service counter and a public lounge (although not certain for the lounge).
The brewery can make some berry brew, if you want more variety or can't make enough beer and/or wine.
It is definitely not meant only for citizens.

thanks for the info. I'll have to start the game from scratch then and only promote those that need it for the job.

as for the second part of your answer: I did check their needs and I have churches, clothes, common wares; which as far as i can see should be enough to promote them to citizen. maybe the reason I can't promote them, is cos of the first part of your answer. maybe me promoting every person to commoner has made it impossible for ALL of them to get clothes and common wares...

My tavern has a service counter and a public lounge. I also have beer (that I got from a quest) but no one is going in. it says attendance 0 all the time...

That shouldn't be a problem, if the resource is available for sale they consider it as available and can be promoted. So if you cannot promote them they must be missing something. Click on one of them and see all the needs Base and Additional, which one is never filled?

Is the beer actually inside the tavern? The beer needs to be in a granary for the tavern to take it for sale

Have you set the beer as the product and a worker for the service counter?

EDIT: Click one specific person to see how satisfied their needs are.
It is significantly more accurate than "having" the required things to meet the needs even if it can vary from one individual to the next.

I have just clicked on a random commoner and all his needs are met except entertainment. but I can't fix that cos I can't get anyone to visit my tavern. lol. it's like a catch-22

is it possible to serve both beer and berry brew in the same tavern at the same time?
Fel Jan 20 @ 5:19am
Like with markets, you can make several service counters in the same tavern, each serving a different item.

that's what I thought too but I have two service counters and I still can only serve one drink...I must be doing something wrong. I'll have to play with it. but thanks for the info 😉
2 service counters should indeed show 2 different slots for resources to sell, could you post a screenshot or the save file to look into this?

I just tested it, adding a second service counter (select the tavern, go to "sub-buildings, add a sub-building, select service counter and build something properly) added a second line for picking a product to sell in that tavern.
If it didn't work, maybe you built something that didn't get treated as having proper access or have some issues in your save (most of my saves are from an older version and result in many people not being able to path properly around the map for example).
