What is the point of visitors?
I've added the hospitium and it's filled with visiting soldiers. Is there an upside to having the hospitium and getting visitors? I am having som problems with feeding my dwelling, so if I don't need them, then it would be nice to get rid of them.

I haven't done the "kingdom" stuff, but for the others visitors are linked to quests, you entertain them for a bit and get rewards for it.

You do get some coins for the random visitors that show up. But if they are not near the high satisfied percentage rate of happiness for the needs they require, then you may get zero coinage from them.

As the user above stated, there will be specific quests that show up, that indicate some kind of high-status individual (or small group of individuals) that will come through, and those individuals are important that you get their need-happiness properly met, so that you can earn the specific reward they will give you. They could arrive during the same time, as the random other visitors are wandering about. So keep an eye on them.

I can't remember at what point in the game, that the random visitors begin to arrive. But it could be at the exact moment you build your first Monastery structure. So it's best to have ample (overage supply of) food and goods before the trigger-point hits you. And sometimes the high-class individuals will need a luxury item.

You may also want to check the new official Wiki for Foundation. Maybe there is info about visitors there. (Not sure how updated it is yet.)

You need a hospitium in order to get visitors, and when you build it and the bishop's envoy leaves, you should immediately shut it down. Visitors make some sub-quests possible, but generally, they are just a mess and not really worth the trouble.

If nothing else, visitors make it more livelier and I really like that. It's not only about the numbers for me.

The hospitium cost me about 50g each month, but i get about 200g in donations.... so, i do not agree with Pico22.

They give donations and some other stuff; some delegations even visit your monuments, which is nice to see, but all of them devour everything in sight - unless that has been changed and I haven't noticed it.
