Hmmmm. The game is currently a "relax and build a city" game.
What I would like to see, is more (much more) of a challenge attached to the game. Push/Force players to do much more.
There's mods for that, too at the moment. Go take a look at Batyushki's modpacks. As for the vanilla game, I'm pretty sure they have no plans to make it harder in any appreciable way.
I'd say a sandbox mod is needed for that exact reason, building without worrying about supply chain. I know it leaves a whole aspect of the game behind but for people who enjoyed the base game but wants an other experience, it would be great.
That being said, tweaking the building production amount using mods is a great way to achieve this, although people slowly stops working when all your granaries/warehouses are full... That's a bit problematic because I like to see them work :)
