Villager names
So I bought this game earlier today, already played it for ~8 hours and I'm loving it.
My biggest peeve so far however (besides the zero reimbursement when cancelling construction before it's actually started) is the villager naming. I'm currently at 83 peeps in my almost-a-hamlet and ever since 60ish, all of them are a generic "Male/Female#[Number]"...
So my question is - how many names are stored in the game? And wouldn't it be better to give villagers a surname, and even arrange them into family units?
I know the game is still in Early Access and this may well be planned - it's just something that really bothers me right now. Not enough to keep me from playing, but still...

There are about 60-70 or so names in the game atm. More will be added at some point in the future but for now you could use one of the name mods available via mod.io ;)

Thanks for the suggestion!

there is also a mod you can download that adds about 1500 names as well!

Good to know... I felt that running out of names was a bit of game immersion breaking, lol.
I guess it will be a full coverage once released...

I for one, don't mind duplicate names, even though it could become confusing in the long run.

it's not so much duplicate names that are a problem, it's generic name tags of the sort Male#XXXX or Female#YYYY

Thanks again, however a lot of the mods on mod.io seem to be either out of date or corrupted and the game refuses to load them. I really hope there's plans for Workshop integration in the future...

Also how about they change appearance too when assigned a job, ie a miner outfit etc.

Well the whole reason behind the numbered names is that the game doesn't atm allow duplicates ;)

Workshop integration is planned but the name mods that are currently uploaded on mod.io should all work as intended, I have tried a few of them but there aren't that many anyway :D. Though if there are problems with any please do post on their comment section on mod.io for the developers to fix. :)

Just checked and there are exactly 3:
- https://foundation.mod.io/historical-names-mod-angevin-edition
- https://foundation.mod.io/names-foundation

They do already partly change, e.g. berry gatherers have a berry basket on their back, or builders hold a hammer when walking around. Though more cosmetic details like that would be really nice if/when added. I am sure the devs will add something more in this direction.

Yeah, I'm giving them a try and so far- they're great.

I was talking more about some of the other mods however, especially the settings mods.

Also, I think BoNeZ was talking about villagers' profile pictures, not their avatars.

If you are a Twitch Streamer, I also saw one that will import your follower list and use them as villager names. Since follower lists are publicly visible, it doesn't need you to authenticate with Twitch. It just needs your Twitch name and how many names you want to import. For those who don't have many followers, it also includes the option to include some generic names as well. As an added bonus, the lists (one male and one female) it uses for the generic names can be edited. The one minor drawback I have seen to the mod is that it assigns to the male or female list randomly, so genders may not be accurate. If you (and your followers) can deal with that, it's pretty neat. :)
