Just to note in order to prospect a node you need to own the land 3 hexes away from it and the bailiff must be able to path there i.e. you might need a bridge to cross a river or to get down a steep hill (grey areas)
Right now I'm working on hop-scotching my way across the map with smaller settlements (on the map with a bunch of rivers so have to build bridges). Really hoping to find some quartz and/or gold on the other side of the map, 'cos none of the traders are selling quartz and the one trader selling gold (for 200g a piece) needs gold ore to unlock.
Sounds like you are running a modded game as the vanilla game has no trader unlocked with gold if i remember correctly. What map are you playing on?
As mentioned above all vanilla maps have all minerals but we cannot promise that is true for modded maps, some might not.
It has mountains along the edges of the map and a big island in the middle separated by rivers. I just assumed it would have all the resources on it, but maybe not...
Right now I'm trying to get across but my villagers keep refusing to cross the bridges I make.
Is there a max range villagers are willing to go away from any of your buildings in order to move to a new Builder's Workshop (and other basic resource buildings like Lumber/Stonecutter camps)?
I figured if I buy the ~8 hexes across the island to the other side and build a couple of small camps /w Builder's Workshop, Lumber/Stonecutter camps and mark down a residential area for them to build some basic houses on (sending newcomers/serfs only, so they shouldn't need very high desirability for houses), I could get across without having to densely populate every single tile.
Most likely, you haven't found all the nodes yet. If you're playing on a vanilla map, there will be at least one node of each type of mineral.
What map are you playing?
