ah ok got my answer. was gonna ask the same. no point building a castle if theres no threat.

and to the guy saying its not that kind of game go play a diff one... like for real lol? the vast majority like combat in these kinds of games and to top it off they can make it an option to start a game so you never have to play with combat if you dont want. But locking out those who do seems extremely dumb

I could even argue "if you want a game without combat theres plenty of those go play that." in a way you straight up claimed the game as yours and no one else other than those who think like you can enjoy it. "You dont like it? tough this is my game designed for me in mind only. I dont want combat so go find another game" not exactly good for sales/survivability of a game to reject people interested solely because you would be too lazy to just toggle the combat when you make a new game so you personally dont have to have it.

Well, the developers have repeatedly said there will be no on-screen combat in the vanilla game, so make of that what you will. It's been said it just won't happen.

That said, you might be interested to know that a couple of very good modders are working on creating simulated combat and have gotten pretty close so far. It would not surprise me if vjraymon and batyushki manage to create a few combat scenario mods in the near future. If you don't mind playing with mods, this could be a very nice alternative.

Currently you have the mod "Security" which is using towers and walls, and the beginning of a fighting animation with "Assign soldier". ( You have also dragons :) )
Actually this game is more planned as a medieval city builder than a Age of Empire like. There are plenty of buildings wich are only decoratives.
