lots of bread, but no berries
not sure if im doing something wrong, but i have 70+ bread and only moving 10 p/wk, but berries are sold out (over 50 last wk). the goods are stored in the same granary, and the stalls for each are right outside. why are they buying the berries but not the bread? did i miss something?

This is another one of the hidden mechanics that are not currently explained in game. If the market stalls are part of the same monument then your villagers will buy from the slots in order of appearance until they empty them and only then proceed to buy from the next slots.

I am guessing your village consists of newcommers and serfs at this point? They only have a single food need while commoners and above have two food needs. This means that they will only buy from the first stall in your market (I am guessing the berries are there) and would only buy from the second (guessing bread) if the first one is empty. Once you upgrade them to requiring a second food source need they will start buying from both slots.

Villagers buy from left to right and top to bottom.
That means that if you have berries in slot 1 they will prefer berries and will only buy bread when you run out of berries. Commoners have 2 food types though so they would buy a berry and a bread while leaving the 3rd slot (fish maybe) alone.

Personally I like bread in slot 1, as i can always produce more of it, which isn't the case for berries and fish. Others switch up which food is in the first slot of different markets, so they all get eaten more or less equally. Yet other players use single stall markets, but i would not recommend that because having control over which foods are eaten more and which foods are allowed to stock up is a very valuable thing imo.

Or for a more random distribution between the two food sources you can make the two stalls as separate market monuments ;)

Note again it will not be fully random but will depend on which stall is the closest to each villager's house but it will definitely be a more equal distribution to "everyone buys berries from the first slot"

btw - it worked! now my stalls all go: bread - fish - berries. it works reaaaally well!

knowing that the granaries work in 1,2,3,4 helps too.
