Grain not going to windmill
I've had an issue with the wheat farm -> windmill -> bakery a few times.

My farm is always stocked with grain, generally 50 to 100, but the windmill isn't running and has no wheat. I've tried placing them closer as well as trying to use a warehouse as an intermediate, hoping that the warehouse workers would pick it up and deliver.

I'm sure that i probably don't understand some mechanic of the supply train. What should i be doing to get the wheat moving?

I've also tried to set up the bread buildings on different sides of the town, but when the workers do try to deliver supplies, they run all the way across town instead of using the building right next to them.

I was just going to ask this same question.. Everything they need is right nearby, but they refuse to make wheat.

If you have a warehouse stocked with wheat then the bakers will prefer to get it from there.

You need to check:

1) how close your bakers live to the mill and the warehouse
2) how far they have to walk to fill all their needs, i.e. how far are the markets, the church, the well.

If they walk around too much to fill their needs that leaves them almost no time to work and thus as you can imagine are really unproductive.

@Rez, can you follow the bakers around and see what they are doing?

Edit: I also see you have the warehouse set to stock maximum, change it to accept and see if that fixes it.

Ok, so its a proximity issue for the first part. Is that the same issue thats causing them to deliver wheat to a windmill across the entire town?

If i reset all my workers, will it automatically try to get the ones that live closest to a job to work there, or do i have to go into each house and try to set the individual people to work nearby?

@Onemeangreenbean I can't really know without seeing the village, they always take the resource they need from the closest available location so if they are taking it from all across town then they don't have something accessible near them.

You really need to check what the villagers are doing to find the problem, maybe they got stuck somewhere, open the warnings window (top left green/red button) and see if the bakers are stuck for instance.

Yes if you unassign them all and reassign it will always pick the closest living unemployed one.

Ok, thanks. That should help me fix a lot of the problems i've been having before they make my village spiral out of control.

Yeah, same issue. I don't know what's going on. Put down a marketplace right near the house (just to the left of the windmill and warehouse), and no can do. I just quickly tried to find my save file, but cannot find it on my disk. I'll have to wait until tomorrow - I gotta run.

Edit - save game file location is completely empty.. hmm..

Is there any way to do this without clicking on each and every work place and firing everyone and then going back and re-filling positions?

Unfortunately not for now :( What you can do is from the beginning limit your residential zone to only the places you really want them to move into, this way you always have them living relatively close to the new workplaces you create :)

@Rez if you are using cloud saves (default if you haven't turned it off) they are found here:
D:\Program Files\Steam\userdata\26922941\690830\remote\Foundation\Save Game

where 26922941 is your user id number so it will be different to mine.

Yes, that is what I am doing on my most recent village. It works moderately well, once I remember to go back and erase any empty residential zones! It would be nice if there was some way to automate reassigning everyone--or have a system where re-assigning isn't necessary. Great game, by the way. I will be playing this one for a long time.

@rkelly17 automatic house swapping to minimise the work/home distance is planned for the future but we have no information yet as to when it might be available.

Had a few minutes, here you go Minotorious.

It's my very first village, so everything is scattered around and messy. Tis is how I figure out the game play on my first go.
