Villagers far from their jobs
Do/should villagers reshuffle where they live (like banished) so they are close to where they work?

Currently it seems like they dont. So i have farmers walking miles to work do a tiny bit of work then leave for example. Short of micro managing who lives where any ideas on this?

I know now that if my latest housing was on one side of the town no point building something on the other side because they will be very unproductive. But i really dont want to build all new buildings near my latest housing (eg may not be flat and suitable for farms)

Currently they don't you have to do it manually if you don't plan it properly to begin with. In the future they will.

Thats way too much tedious micromanagement, i think i will come back when its been sorted

while that is true, that micro management is also something that keeps you occupied when you get beyond a few hundred villagers. I guess, potato potato (sounds better out loud ;) )

Yes, this is far too much micromanagement, I will park the game until that's implemented. I have a villager working in a warehouse in one corner of my map, living in another corner, and during the day she manages one delivery to the warehouse before going back on break.

According to my experience, a short one, one way to solve the problem is combined area planning with towers. If your citizens work too far away, build a watch tower, assign those long travellers as soldiers and make sure you have area near farm for housing before new people move to your village. Once you assign them to your farm right away after arrival they will build their house nearby assigned workplace.

I've got 545 villagers now and this is out of control! Villagers choosing to build on the other side of town when i have residential areas allocated near their workplaces, by the time they get there it's end of their work. Is there anyway to move the villager's house manually?

Yeah, this is a fun game but this aspect of it is game breaking. Every city I have made has failed due to citizens unable to actually do their jobs. I have tried deleting houses hoping they would be rebuild closer, but no luck. I have tried decorating areas to make them more appealing for residential housing, but no luck. Like others have mentioned, i have farms that arn't getting worked because the people are living literally across the whole city. So I can't play this game after tier 3 buildings are all unlocked. It really sucks... I'm going to have to shelf the game until this is fixed. It honestly makes me regret my purchase. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. :steamsad:

The main tip is to limit your residential area only in the regions you want them to build houses and not make the mistake of painting residential everywhere resulting in thr exact problem you are having.

Also turn immigration off every now and then to ensure everything is going according to plan.

Agreed. My current town has 330 people and not one of them (other than a few soldiers) works more than 40m from home.

It's a "bit" of work, but when things get out of hand simply fire everybody and then reasign them through the workplace list using the "asign available villager" button.

Also when you get at like 300 villagers and up, control your residential areas and make sure "housing upgrades" are off,you should be able to get the new villagers to live where you want them to and if a few sneak in at a place you overlooked it shouldn't matter to much if you build your city well.
Having a couple of unemployed villagers for "just in case" is rather handy even.

This would've never occurred to me. Awesome suggestion, thanks for sharing. My current town is about 350 and it started to become an issue. Then again, it's my first town so I didn't really start out planning well. This gives me a new way to revive the first town.

This has not been a problem for me and my town has something like 450 villagers.

What I do is when I move to a new area, I think about where I want the villagers to be that are going to work in the new area. Then, I build a well + market there, to make the ground desirable for housing, and mark it as residential, while making sure as little as possible is marked as residential elsewhere. This way, I can control where my new workers are going to live.

Before, I used to play city builders with 100 000 to 1 million inabitants. This games is designed at max, for ? 1000 ?
So when you are making micromanagement for 1 villager, how would you call that for 1000 habitant ? (a big tower in other games which involves transports, schools and so...), planification ?
You are never obliged to do that for small villager (100-200) But if you wish to reach 1000 with some monuments the best is to begin early.
