and build it up partially not the whole monastery at once. I always added two dorms and a new herbalist or bee keeper and then editted it again when the stock got lower
But it's very useless as they're very expensive, at least for the beginning. Later on i wouldn't mind about +/- ~200 gold/week

I have only one dorm and 6 monks there - for two herbs and one bee keep.
Also people entered monastery not from doors or open element (has no name), but through dorm wall.
Are you sure you only have 1 dorm? Or you maybe have 1 dorm 1 munk and 4 workers living in the monastery? oO Can you maybe add a screenshot of your monastery? I'm wondering if i missed something ^^. I thought i understood the concept of those monasterys already ^^

1 dorm, 2 herbalists houses and 1 bee house.
So, 10 monks, 2 villagers living, 6 working places used.
