How can I build houses?

I looked at YT-Videos, but they just put a resedential-zone in the village and then the villager are building houses. But if I put a resedential-zone in the village there happens absolutely nothing.
Can someone say me how this works?

You must paint a residence zone (as extraction zone).

Residential zoning will be unlocked when your villagers reach serf status. For this you will require water (Well) and food (Berries).
Berries will need to be sold in a (staffed) Food Market and assigned to an available slot.

If you have it, paint a zone. You need enough spaces and materials. Be sure to assign builders, and they're gonna build the houses.

I have no option to build a market or zone for homes. I have 12 villagers. What am I doing wrong?

I saw that, but I can't build a market. There is not market available

How villagers reach serf status when they can't buy berries ?

@judithcarla The Market can be built, but it is in the second "section" of the construction panel. When you click on the "building" tab, you have list of buildings, but on the left you have 3 "buttons", the second one has the list of buildings you are looking for, including the Market.

I really need to know how to build houses for my villagers. I havent seen an answer to this question. just a see above comment and there is nothing above the question that deals with this problem. Help

You cannot build houses in this game, it does it for you once you have created house zones. You must first have a well and berries. Then, once your citizens reach serf status, you will unlock residential zoning. Also realize that to reach serf status, you need a food market where the berries can be sold to your citizens. Pay attention to the various overlays available, because when used they will show you where housing is most desirable.
