I respect your opinion and not saying otherwise. But I think there's plenty of players (like myself) who actually enjoy the building aspect more than the conflict / failure type of gameplay.
For me, I admire this game for its simplified style and cosmetic building with a minimal base of resource management & production.
It's more in line with games like Banished or even a super-stripped down Medieval version of Cities: Skylines. Those games have been very successful and give a huge sense of accomplishment without conflict.
I love that Foundation doesn't ask you to conquer anything, or build up your huge fortress, or take over other people's towns. There are games that do that. This game does not.
There are a lot of things you can do, try to get to 1000 population like some have, build huge monuments for your villagers and share great screenshots with the community, build the whole map, etc. self made challenges since achievements are not implemented yet.
I agree the 1000 challenge sounds interesting and its my current goal. I have one hex set up perfectly with 50 citizens and planned distribution centers in each corner.
What do you mean by build huge monuments? The buildings only scale on the vertical axis so Im not exactly sure what you mean.
I still feel like the wood keeps, walls and guards lack purpose and need something to do. I also dont understand why I would want to fill a wood keep with 10 villagers/soldiers and when I do why they all stand in the same spot and do nothing? Id rather they have other jobs and be useful.
Why don't you go to CimCity and demand war?
Oh, may be you come to RailRoad Empire and cry to create firing platforms on trains so you coul do piu-piu at competing companies' property?
It is city building simulator, not strategic game, even not buisness simulator with competitors and rivals. There is enougth violence in other games, left this type of games without it.
Fire in a city; wildfire in a forest dangering city; climatic issues - huge snowfals, frost or vice versa - hot summer. You want to engage soldiers into something? Ok, here you are - servs' riot from the food lack; market thieves; burglars.
I'll wright it all in suggestion theme.
If you bought this game hoping for Settlers, Black and White 2, or any other combat based RTS, you are, quite frankly, an idiot.
This game will never have combat. It is not an RTS. It is not even in a genre where the typical gamer would expect combat.
Just think of this like you would Sim City. There will probably be crisis in the full game, but you aren't going to be building catapults to siege someone's city. Nor does if fit the theme of the game at all.
Please go elsewhere for your TD / Isometric RTS / pvp needs. This game is fine like it is.
This game is very good already (I had it before EA started in the stand alone form) and I see how much better it has already become. I can hardly imagine how good it will be at the end of EA and I would certainly still play the game if the devs did add some kind of combat. I mean, combat was certainly part of medieval cities. I don't think this game needs combat though to be or feel complete.
I also love the other thing some people seem to complain about.. No grid organic building.
To me, both the lack of combat and gridless building are the things that set this game apart and make it unique. Without those features, I'm not sure this game needs to be done.. Just play Banished or LF: Forest Village.
