Desirable Residential Zoning
My village has started getting larger and I now have 3 territories with new villagers walking in regularly, all wanting housing. My issue is that I have run out of desirable areas for residential zoning around the village center. Is there a way to make another area desirable for housing?

they become desirable as you add things to suit needs in the same area

I can see the houses becoming more desirable as more businesses and decorations are added, but the residential zoning desirability seems to only be a radius around the village center. The farther from the village center I go the more "red" the land becomes for desirability.

set a well and a market with food somewhere and the area gets used by new villagers

You can also place a few Decorative Bushes to make the land more desirable for building. I like to place one or two by each house, particularly the "outer" houses that are nearer to red zones. It extends your green zone quite nicely and only cost $2 each. :) Be careful, though - you will lose worker efficiency if folks are housed too far from other centers for work and need-filling, which is why, as Asgo said above, it's good to put a well and a market down every so often to keep those areas truly efficient.

The churches also produce an added value to the residentials areas, but not the mansions or castles, it seems to me.

Correct, they do - although it takes much longer to be able to afford a church than a flower bush. LOL But they are really great for that when you get there. :)

Thanks everyone! I'll give it a try.

build a well and a food market. Assign someone without a house to the market. If there are resource building camps nearby, assign people without houses to work there

I don't notice that rustic churches add to residential desirability. Correct?

You are right, at this time, the rustic churches don't add to residential desirability. :)

any forest nearby makes the area undesirable, empty space with nothing in it makes it undesirable too

well & market near a dwelling area make a new small center which is highly desirable

i am currently trying to find out what a good town layout could be
maybe someone who plays usually city builders like Cities:Skylines or Anno could post some illustrated suggestions

i think one ought to calculate how many workers an area needs, which then would define how big an adjacent dwelling area had to be

As far as I experienced that is true - it only satisfies the need for faith, which is needed for the promotion to Citizen

I think the concept of clusters as stated above makes sense. New Well + Food Market with some Residential around it will grow the desirability of an area outside of the town center.

Hopefully some of these other services will in the future add bonuses beyond just satisfying needs. Great post!
